From my 1796 Taufbuch I have two words, occupations? "Hans, des Insten in Vorbrugge" - who or what is an Insten, (Vorbrugge is part of Kellinghusen).
The other is "Gesell Ehler Ratjen, des Kathners (umlaut a) Jochim and Dorothea" what is "Gesell" and "des Kathners" (unlaut A)? please
Cheers

Re German dictionary.  Somebody - a while ago now - told me of a standard German Dictionary rather akin to the English standard "Oxford" Dictionary. I now cannot recall the name of the German dictionary, and whether or not is freely available on line. Perhaps you might know of it?

I can translate Swedish. Even as far back as 1700 but that can take a little longer. I am from England and have been living in Sweden for over 20 years.
