Yes, occasionally they made it easier for us by painting in the rings with a little dob of gold paint!  Not so this one, but the pose indicates to me that this is what she was showing off, and possibly he as well.  Poses in those days were very contrived, and the photographic technique used to produce tintypes was pretty rough and ready - there is sometimes very little detail/contrast, so perhaps  there's a ring and it's just not visible.

Hi Liverpool Annie - the original is really to small to work with & enlarging the current one isnt a solution. If you can do a larger scan I would be happy to spend some time on it.
