Hi Graceland

The only thing about a WW1 death is that yoiu find out the cause of death and his army number and regiment if you did not know already.

My uncle's cause of death was
1 S W 26 days
2 abcess of the brain.

I understand S W is a shot wound.  I was able to work out when he was actually injured.  I contacted his Regiment and found out where he would have been when he was shot, in this case it was Arras, France.

If you are interested in the action in WW1 there is quite a bit you can find out.  As the poet Sigfried Sassoon was in Arras at that time I found some of his poems were informative.

The certificate also gave place of death which was in a temporary military hospital in Edmondton, Middlesex.

I thought it was worth the money for my Uncle.

Sylvia

I got my gt.grandads using the info on the CWGC site.

Unfortunately it didn't tell me anything more than the info that was on the site.

It just said killed in action as cause of death.

I found the reference in the overseas deaths books at the FRC.

These index's are due to go online at 1837.com in the future.

Cheers Diane :)

I got my great great uncle's death certificate.  He died in 1915 and according to CWGC site he was on HMS Swiftsure, but he was buried in Halling Cemetary in Kent.  Couldn't understand why he was buried here.  It turned out he died from conditions completely unrelated to WWI.
