Tomkins family Oswestry in 1861
« on: Thursday 12 August 04 21:25 BST (UK) »
Hi,
Is there anyone who could look up a Fanny Tomkins or Tompkins in the 1851 or 1861 censuses, she was born around 1847 in Quatford. I have her married to a William Richard Jones living in Willow Street,Oswestry in 1871, she is down as 24 years old then.
Many thanks.
Floridagirl.

Hi Floridagirl,

Here is Fanny and family of the 1851 census. Her parents and siblings are also on all the later Quatford / Bridgnorth census if you want them?
I photographed Hill House, Quatford for another researcher last year. Would you like copies?

This seems like a good page to post on.

I am having extreme problems with trying to sort my tree out.
My maternal great grand mother was called Mary Ethel Russell b. Windsor 1866. She married Henry Green (b. 1866 Oswestry, Shrops.) in 1889. I think that Henry died at W. Bromwich when he was 34. (6b. 582). She remarried Austin Herbert Tomkins in Q1, 1900 at Wolverhampton (She was 34) Austin was born in October 1867 in Wolverhampton, Staffordshire to Elizabeth Tomkins, age 41, and Samuel Tomkins, age 42. in 1871 Austin  lived in Trysull, Staffordshire, with his family and at Hillingdon, Middlesex, in 1881 as a single boarder.

In 1901 Mary Ethel Russell lived in barracks at Colchester, Essex. It seems likely  that Austin was in the army.

have just taken out a sub on FindMyPast and found a passanger list that has me wondering.
An A. H. Tomkins travelled to Boston from Liverpool in 1902 He was traveling on the same ticket number (11039) as a married man whose name and initial were  U.M. F James. (Initials may be incorrectly translated)  I think that he probally shared a cabin with him.

Unfortunately he died March 1904 at Windsor at the age of 36. They had been married 4 years.

Please can anybody tell me any more about anything that may be related?

Don't think they're the same person. On the arrival manifest in Boston he's listed as a Doctor and an American citizen. Possibly Albert Henry TOMPKINS a Boston physician.

Thanks for you reply Maureen. I would tend to agree the Boston Dr seems the most likely candidate.
I have found other material that may perhaps  help others to identify any relationships. When I get time I will repost them on.

I presume you have her last Marriage to Richard REDRUP 20 Nov 1904 Paddington
Father George James RUSSELL, deceased Farmer.
(Anc)

1900 Marriage is on Familysearch. Org

So what you have seems all correct to me :)
