Further on... It seems plain that - John (Harrisson) Newport had no children.

There is a record of one Samuel Newport "son of John Newport of Middlesex" being apprenticed to John Smith - Coachman.
The dates on that photocopied record indicate that Samuel was 20 years of age at the time.
It is more likely that the "missing link" John Newport was a tradesman or labourer - as a noblemans son would have been unlikely to take such a position.
I'm going to carry on with that focus as I don't think our line came from Francis Newport of the peerage.
If anyone finds new info I'd be glad to hear from you.
