Carr - biscuit makers of Carlisle
« on: Tuesday 27 September 05 11:45 BST (UK) »
I am looking for decendants of Jonathan D Carr, founder of the biscuit factory in carlisle around 1831.
He was born abt 1807 in Kendal and married Jane ?? born abt 1809 in Whitehaven. I know they had a daughter Elizabeht born 1835 but what other children did they have?

Just in passing

I have came across this, on some parish records of mine:

1835 May 1st Sarah Glaister daughter of William and Mary Carr of Scotch St, Whitehaven, a Smith

Just a thought, and not a biscuit person, but it may be yours

I have a vague memory of a recent obituary in the Daily Telegraph for the most recent head of the family firm.  Cannot remember when it was though.   I am sure the Record Office will have lots of documentation about them as it was one of the major employers.

Ask at your library if they can order a copy of a book (now out of print) called Rich Desserts and Captains Thin A Family and their Times by Margaret Forster.  It has in it the family tree of Jonathan Carr m Jane Dodgson
