Very pleased to find this thread, as I am also a descendent of George Green, through the Mary Polly line. jhma's info was especially helpful for me to shore-up some gaps and correct misinformation I had gleaned from ancestry.com.

I also have photos of both Sir George and his wife Jane, which are attached to this post.

Would love to know more about the parentage of both George and Jane Haywood.

I've been digging through some old census reports and other documents since I was last here.

(Sir) George Green's parents were

  Thomas Green; born abt 1821 in Stockport, died abt. 1892.  Weaver.
  Elizabeth Meadows; born abt. 1820 in Hindley, Lancashire.

  They married in 1842 in Cheadle, Cheshire.


Jane Green's parents (also, of course, those of  George Green's 2nd wife Mary) were

  John Heywood; born abt. 1816 in Ashton Under Lyne, Lancs.
  Ann Chadderton; born abt. 1815 in Droylsden, Lancs.

James - thanks again for fresh information. I had the wrong Haywood tree going - quite glad to be corrected. Probably also have some incorrect siblings of Jane Haywood. I'll make a review some of the census records.

Do you have the birth date/year of George Green's wife, Jane handy? I'm sure I have that wrong, too.

Jane Green (née Heywood) was born abt. 1844 in Newton Hall, Lancs.
