Believe me no stone has been unturned - that I KNOW of.  Workhouse records are the next thing.

Den

Den,

I'm just a bit confused -- I thought you hadn't found your Emma and 2 boys on any census except 1881 (Wm George). If so, you really should check census records for '51, 61, and 71 before you go off to Workhouse records.

You don't know IF or WHEN or WHERE she was in a workhouse, so it's a bit of a difficult task. But census is different - you know she was there somewhere  :-)

I had a brief look myself this morning in census but the only ones I found that 'fit' at all (even with variant spellings of the names) were 2 brothers sons of a Samuel, and a sister Emily, no mother Emma. Mind you that was only a quick look...

I'll keep looking but meantime you might try http://allcensusrecords.com/ for help

John

I spotted her too - but she is too old & married to be the mother of Wm Geo LOVELL in 1863?  Besides if she became a DRAPER in 1856...and Wm Geo LOVELL was born in 1863ish.

'Emma' is sitting somewhere and laughing at our attempts to track her down, I think!

If I were a betting woman - I would go for Samuel & Elizabeth's daughter ...Emily Jane [Emelia in the 1851 census]- but even that seems unlikely!

I give up!

Frederick Dicks is the father of Emma's two boys according to the Bedfordshire Mercury May 1871...she was living with Frederick as his wife but I believe they were not married. Frederick got arrested for threatening her with a knife. It states they had two children.

in 1871 census she was using the name Dicks as were the two boys, they lived st paul's parish. It states Emma was born Bambury Oxfordshire 1845.
Children... William Dicks age 4, Frederick age 5
But like I said above I don't think they were actually married.
I'm on the search for Frederick Dicks the father and cannot find him in 1881.

I'd get the 1879 death cert mentioned in the other thread at http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=731868.0 to see if it provides any clues as to whether it's the same Frederick
