Hi Spurling,

Welcome to rootschat  8)

This seems to be the family in 1851
HO107/1822 Folio 417 p. 16
Kenninghole, Norfolk
Quiltcross Union Workhouse

William Spurling, Pauper, mar, 43, Ag Lab, b. Banham
Lucy Spurling, pauper, mar, 41, b. Kenninghall
John Spurling, pauper, 3 (no birthplace stated)

Samuel Spurling, scholar pauper, 4, b. Banham
Joshua Spurling, scholar pauper, 11, b. Banham
William Spurling, scholar pauper, 7, b. Banham

And this might be Robert:
HO107/1822 Folio 102 p. 13
Banham, Norfolk
North Moor

Mary Ann Spurling, head, unm, 19, Ag Lab daughter, b. Banham
Robert, brother, 13, Ag Lab, b. do.
Jacob, son, 11ms, b. do.
John Betts, visitor, unm, 24, Groom, b. Banham

If the latter is your Robert, then they would have left (at least one) daughter behind when they left.

Hae you already tried FreeBMD for birth references?

Hi there
My name is Debbie and I live in South Australia.

I am very interested in your William Spurling and Lucy Wood from Banham Norfolk.

I am a descendant from their son Joshua who migrated to South Australia and married Margaret Hallion in 1858 and they had 7 children including my great great grandmother Margaret Marcella Spurling.

Margaret Marcella Spurling married George William Ormsby.

Send a private message if you wish to contact me on further information.

Cheers Deb

Hello,
I am a direct descendant of William and Lucy! and his son Robert Spurling.  I am only young and have just started research (I am in south Australia) so any help with records in England would be a great help as i am compiling a family history book as we speak.

From my knowledge;
William Spurling (born 1808, Banham) married Lucy before 1841, when they were present at the work house in Guiltcross (id like to know more on this if anybody knows information on this). They had about 7 kids, the two oldest girls i believe stayed in England. William left England on a boat called Shackamaxon (look it up, interesting story behind it), with his wife and Robert, Joshua, William, Samuel and James. The family arrived in Port Adelaide in 1853. James died at the age of 4 a year or two after they arrived. William died in Beaufort, SA.

I mainly have my direct family written down from me to James Spurling (James Spurling-William Spurling-Robert Spurling-William John Spurling-John Robert Spurling-Edward George Spurling-My grandfather and Father.) along with their siblings.
