John Reynolds of Denton
« on: Wednesday 12 October 05 16:37 BST (UK) »
Can anyone tell me where I am likely to find the parish records for Denton? According to the 1851 census John Reynolds was born there in 1777 but spent most of his life in Pertenhall in Bedfordshire.
         Thanks for your help.  Linmey.

Thanks for that Byron. He is an elusive chap and I think others have had a problem because I have recently found someone in Australia searching for him on another site.
I now have the added problem that his birth place is different on different censuses. Two mention Denton and one mentions Denford. So that makes it very difficult. I cant find a marriage entry on the IGI. He moved from Denton/Denford to Pertenhall Beds and is mentioned on the muster rolls in 1803 as single and a shepherd. We think he must have married later that year to an Elizabeth but we dont have a surname for her yet. I need to check out the parish records for Pertenhall though of course he may have married out of the parish.
Many thanks for your help.  Linmey.

I LOVE YOU BYRON. That is fantastic. I can now check it all out and hopefully move on from 1777.
Many many thanks for looking it up for me.
           Best wishes Linmey.

I dont know what to say. Its like christmas has come early. Thank you very much for that bit of information. I will follow it up. If that was Johns father then it looks likely that the family were still in Denford in 1795 and that perhaps John moved to Pertenhall on his own, perhaps for work purposes.
Many thanks once again.  Best wishes Linmey.

Hi Linmey

Well if it wasn't for the endless people who transcribe records to assist family historians and the Internet to en-able us to help each other our branches would not be overflowing in a matter of minutes.

Glad to be of help.

Sandy

I agree completely. It constantly amazes me that we have so much at our disposal. We may moan when we cant find what we want, but we are so lucky to have what we do have and as you say we have to be grateful to the people who put in the hard work to produce it.
     Many thanks.  Best wishes. Linmey.
