1851 Uckinghall or Ripple - HOVERD family
« on: Friday 14 October 05 21:30 BST (UK) »
Hi

Looking for the family of John and Ann Hoverd - they live in Uckinghall, which is part of Ripple, Worcestershire in 1841 and 1861.

1841 return:
John Hovord 40 Agricultural Labourer
Ann 35
William 15
John 13
Emma 14
Mary 10
George 8
Sarah 4
Elizabeth 1 month

Other children born by 1851 are Charles (1843), Anne Jane (probably died given names of following children), Jane (1846) and Anne (1848).

Any help greatly appreciated,

Thanks,

Mark

Wow! Thanks so much. What a quick reply.

I was writing up the Hoverd family history and realised I was missing the 1851 census information, posted here and five minutes later I have the info.

This site and the people who post here are wonderful.

Thank you so much.

Hi Mark

I noted that you are writing up a Family History on the Hoverd family in Worcestershire.  If so, please let me know if you have any information on Albert Arthur Hoverd b, Upton on Severen abt 1866. He latter married Lydia Eliza Wallis in 1908 (my descendant line connection) but I can find nothing on his origins - there seems to be 2-3 families of Hoverd/Overd/Holford living near Upton/Pershore around that time but i have nothing connecting him to either of them and would be most interested if you have further information on this family.  Many thanks and good luck also.

Hi Richardac

I saw your query and had a look at the Upton on Severn Baptism Register 1866-1869 and the only Hoverd mentioned was Harry baptised on June 8th 1867 the son of Elizabeth Hoverd. Abode - The Depot.

Perhaps someone with local knowledge can explain what “The Depot” was. It doesn’t seem to have been the workhouse as that is mentioned by name in other entries.

Jack

I am currently working on this family. It would seem John was born in Childswickham as Giles Wickham which was as it was recorded on the census does not exist.

I am looking for anything relating to John Hoverd and also Ann - maiden name, birth place, parents etc.
Eastbury asked what the Depot meant..... my Hoverd descendants were working on the railway and moving with work, so I am assuming they were living in the railway depot at the time.

Re: Hannah, wife of William Hoverd, her name was Scriven, they were married 5 Feb 1850 in Ripple,Worcester,England

Hannah Scriven was Born 1828 in Hanley Castle, Worcester, England, daughter of Thomas Scriven and Sarah (Bullock)

There is a burial for an Ann Hoverd aged 87 on 20 Jan 1892 in New Street, Upton on Severn, the place of her birth.
