John Brooks 1871

Please can you look up John Brooks  in the 1871 census he would be about 50 years.

Many thanks
I am having trouble finding him in Norfolk, where he was in 1861, his wife is living in Bury and Heap Lancashire in 1871 but he was not on the census with her, he was a blacksmith journeyman, so he could be anywhere, and he was dead by 1881

Hi,

Can you tell me where he was born?  There are about 67 John BROOKS listed in the 1871 cenus that match this birth range (1819-1822).

There is a tendency for some widows to give their status on censuses as married, particularly newly widowed and of course census enumerators made mistakes, so you need to check the death registration for Norwich just in case John's death is the reason his widow (Elizabeth?) had moved from Norfolk to be with her family. It is important not to take everything you find in one record at face value and check out all possibilities.
