please can anyone tell me  anything about Janet Cleator born 1810 in Wigtown  anything at all thank you

Hi Doreen, have you anything else to go on? How you first came upon Janet- was it a marriage , census info, anything might help.....
I've had a quick look at the IGI & I see your problem... there's only a handful in the whole of Scotland & none for Wigtownshire!

Hi Doreen,

There is only one reference to a Janet Cleator on freeBMD being a death March 1888 Whitehaven (Cumberland) Vol 10b p411 age 75.  I also found a Jane Cleator born Scotland 1811 living in Cumberland in the 1881 England census.  Possibly the same person.

But here's an interesting twist.  While scanning other England census years, I discovered numerous people born in Cleator Cumberland.  I hope this doesn't confuse the issue.

But, like Rose, if you could provide further information about her, it might help others help you.

thanks for replying to my cry for help  I first  found Jane/Janet Cleator  on the 1881 census as being born in Scotland  but when  looking for a marriage cert  for possible  parents  only found one I thought  might  be the one  a William Cleator  married Isabel Mathison 1810 Janet /Jane was born in 1811  the marriage for William and Isabel was at Edinburgh Parish Church    on her son Henry.s  birth cert 1841 she is unmarried   and living in Whitehaven

no luck up to now   would love to find out  more about Janets  parents all I know is they were married in 1810  in Edinburgh Parish Church   were they from Scotland ?or did they go over the border to get married   they just seem to have vanished   any help at all will make my day  I am in Liverpool so  cant get there myself
