John Buckley of Tipperary
« on: Tuesday 18 October 05 16:19 BST (UK) »
Sorry, a little new to this.

I'm researching the Buckley side of my family.

I'm in South Wales, and have managed to get as far back as the 1861 census - there are no records of my family in the earlier census records.

I have found John Buckley (married to Catherine Buckley - possibly Lane was her maiden name), living in Briton Ferry, South Wales in 1861.

They eventually moved to Maesteg, where they are buried.

From his burial records, I know he was 56 when he died in 1888, so he was born circa 1831-3.

The 1871 census gives his place of birth as Tipperary, but that's it. I know Catherine was born in Waterford, but again that's as much as i have.

I have no idea how common a name this is, and hope someone may be able to help, no matter how vague it may be - if I can narrow my serach down to towns/villages rather than an entire county it would be a start!! Many thanks in advance

Hi
Have you checked the IGI - there is a marriage , Catherine Lane to James Buckley, but earlier than your dates, this is in 1799.
But the marriage took place in Clonmel, which is co.Tipperary, but very close to co.Waterford.
The IGI entry shows Catherine was born in co.Waterford, so it might be worth pursuing. I know from my own family who are from co.Waterford/Tipperary, that births/marriages/deaths recorded at Clonmel were often for people in co.Waterford, just over the county border.

Mags
Bailey - co.Limerick, Kilbeheny;co. Tipperary, Ballyporeen parish
King - co.Limerick, Kilbeheny parish
Moher - co.Tipperary, Ballyporeen parish
Farrell - co.Tipperary, Coolagarranroe, Skeheenaranky
Fitzgerald - ditto

that's excellent - I have a funny feeling that this isn't them, but it gives me a good idea where to look.

Thanks a lot
