Looking for Susanna Zelly/Burt 1841 census
« on: Tuesday 18 October 05 16:45 BST (UK) »
Hi,
On my great grandma's Mary Ann Burts birth cert (  born July 1844 at 12 North Quay Weymouth.  )  Her parents were James Burt and Susanna nee ZELLEY.

They had two other daughters , Sarah born 1842 and Jemima 1849.

Unfortunatly the parents died , James 1848 and Susanna 1849 and the children were put into the Bristol Orphanage, Ashley Down.

I would like to find out more on Susanna  (Zelley ) on the 1841 census.  Whether she was still single on had just got married  to James Burt as Unfortunatley I have no details of their marriage as yet.
Be very grateful for any help.
Best wishes,
Granny Annie.

Name Susanna BURT Date 17 Sep 1849 Aged 44 Place Wyke Regis Description All Saints Denomination Anglican County code DOR
Name James BURT Date 28 Jun 1848 Aged 41 Place Wyke Regis Description All Saints Denomination Anglican County code DOR
now i have an idea of age i can look in the 41 cencus.
hmmmm 1841 is interesting.the only close match is a james and susan burt living in lyme regis but they have children.although judging by ages at death one would think they proberley did have children.is it possible there were older children than the ones you know about????
let me know if you want me to post the details of what i found?
regards
alli

Thank you Alli for giving me the burial details thats great.
Now we have the ages hopefully we might be able to track the parents down on the 1841 census. Find out where they both came from etc.
I agree with you that Susanna was quite old when she had these three daughters Sarah, Mary Ann and Jemima, possibly were more children have yet to discover!!
I wondered if Susanna nee ZELLEY was related to the many Zelleys who lived in the same area arround Hope Square Weymouth.
I would be delighted to read what you have found, thank you very much for your help.
Best wishes

Thank you for that Alli.  I will keep it the information on one side for the moment.
Shame they do not give the mothers maiden name.
Cheers,
Granny Annie

To discover the life and times of Susan and her siblings such as
William & Richard Zelley be prepared for a long ride
around the world in such places as South Africa, Australia,
New Zealand, the Happy Valley Cemetery in Hong Kong & the HMS "Heroic",
or follow Another William and the Seaforth Highlander of Canada
from Sicily to Rome. Or, relive the the final voyage of the cutter "Spirit"
and the last farewell of James Richard Zelley.  Or, at some time
you may want to browse through the "Echoes of the Storm"
in Nanaimo, BC, Canada

Or follow Sarah Purchase and the Conway family to Bristol, and ask were they aware of the plight of the BURT kin so many years before!

This is not the James BURT  & Susannah ZELLEY family.

Susannah was born in the Fleet - Chickerell area about 1806.
Susannah married James BURT December 4, 1831
Both Susannah & James died in the Weymouth region
after 1841 & before 1850.
The oldest daughter was likely Hannah BURT
(named after grandmother - Hannah (Lovel) Zelley of Fleet, Dorset.

alli

The above appears to be bang on, with Wyke Regis part of Greater Weymouth.
Plus the age of 44 for Susannah (Zelley) Burt matches the baptism year of 1806

I'm sorry for jumping into this thread without being invited< and
hope my points have added to the BURT - ZELLEY history.
