Bigamous marriages???
« on: Thursday 20 October 05 08:36 BST (UK) »
Basically, I have a great grandfather who decided that it would be a good idea during WW2 to get married again whilst married to my great gran.

I'm having some trouble finding a record of this.

I know it happened, as he was put in Wormwood Scrubs after the war, and it apparently made the front page of the News Of The World (big news back then!).

Basically, I was wondering if anyone knew whether bigamous marriages were stricken from normal records, or if they were left in.

If stricken, would they be recorded anywhere else? A marriage certificate must have been produced, as the marriage wasn't discovered for ssome months after the event

Unsure whether it would be listed, may be and them crossed through.

Do you have names and dates?

I could have a look.

Kev.

No records are struck from the registers ever that would be illegal.
If you are sure it was reported in the paper try the Newspaper Archives, Colindale.
