ABBS, All (GOONS)
« on: Thursday 01 January 04 15:14 GMT (UK) »
Welcome to the ABBS One-Name Study.

This One-name Study has been going for about 2 years and already I have a variety of information available.  I am also registered with the Guild of One-Name Studies.

I am interested in any mentioned of the ABBS surname from around the world.  I have already compiled information on the Cambridgeshire ABBS and I am now working on the Norfolk ABBS and the Durham ABBS.

I am also collecting all the births, marriages and deaths for the surname ABBS from the GRO Indexes.

Any information or queries regarding the surname ABBS gratefully received.

Dear Abbs Ons

After viewing your posting, as a matter of course I thought I would look through the Glamorgan Wales region for your Surname interest, I found no entries for Abbs and variants in the returns of 1841 & 1861.

I wish you well with your ONS. :)

Dear Welsh Jen,

Thank you for looking up any occurance of ABBS in the Glamorgan Welsh census.  I will make a note of what you didn't find - very useful to know if there are or are not any ABBS in an area.

Thanks you again

Cheryl

Hi,

I'm Jo Abbs, I don't know if I can help at all?  I'm in Essex, but my Dad is originally from Stoke Newington and now lives in Bournemouth.  His Family have mostly been from around London.

I'd be interested in finding out more as there's only really my brother & his wife and I left for the Abbs' . .

Jo

Hi Jo,

Sorry for not replying sooner but was not notified that I had had a reply to my message.  Only found out through a Google alert.

I do have some ABBS from Stoke Newington and have quite a lot of information on other ABBS.  Please feel free to email me directly so that I can sort out some information for you.

Cheryl

Hi

Just for your information - my adopted dad's brother in law is an Abbs from Cromer, Norfolk and apparantly he had quite a few siblings.

Sorry that I don't know any more details than that other than I'm sure one of his brothers was a fisherman and lost at sea. My uncle moved down to Hainault, Essex when he married my aunt - he must be about 90 now and still going strong!

My married name is Abbs. I live in Gloucestershire.  Another family member has researched a little and found some in the Norfolk area, going back as far as Wiliam born 1650 died 1700, his son also William born 1660 died 1715, both in Norfolk (Aylmerton) . Trying to find information on any Abbs before those two please.
