Hi,
Thanks for your response.
It now becoming more & more likely that my grandparents were never married.  Dad was always told that his father died before he was born & never questioned it further, but I am unable to trace any marriage cert or death cert to confirm this.  This suspicion is strengthened by the fact that when Gran married again in 1910, she uses her maiden name of Gibbons and is not a widow, but a spinster.
I am extremely interested in the family William Thomas Wyatt, as he seems to be the best candidate.
There is a further family in Camberwell in the 1901 census, who could be possible.
The hard thing is trying to make a definite tie in.  How I wish my Gran was still alive so that I could ask her!!
At the moment I am open to all possibilities. I will send you a PM with my email addy, so that you can contact me direct with the further info.
Thank you again & God bless you.

Hi Lyn,
Sorry for the long time to reply to you, I am also in touch with Christine ( a relative ) who did tell me of you.

This William Wyatt (your Grandfather) and my William Thomas Wyatt (my Grandfather) could possibly be the same person as there are alot of factors that are very close.

1.Rotherhithe, very populated but not a huge area.
2. Butchers assistant (my W.T.Wyatt's  father was a Tripe Dresser )
3. 1908, as my William Thomas married in June that year
to Alice Ellen Scott.

But there are also factors that don't fit.
1. It is William Thomas Wyatt not just William
2.I have his marriage cert in 1908 says he is a batchelor.
3. He is single when joining London Met police in 1907.

Have you ever seen a marriage cert for your William ?
I looked today in the Archives for marriages, could not see another for a William for 1908 for Rotherhithe.
What do you know about his age or the Butchers assistant bit. I know now alot about William Thomas Wyatt born 1881.

Looking forward to hearing from you
Andrew

Hi Andrew,
Great to hear from you, again.
As you say there is a lot that fits between your William Thomas & my grandfather.
However, as you say there is nothing that I consider total proof of the matter.
It does appear that my Gran may never have married William.   I, and others have been unable to find a marriage cert for them.  Then when Gran married Dad's stepdad in 1910, she uses her maiden name, Gibbons, and is a spinster.
Dad never knew his father...he was told that he had died before Dad's birth, but I can find no death for a William Wyatt in the area either.
Gran was born in Rotherhithe & lived all her life there, so I cannot imagine that she would have married outside the area.  Also, if she had been married, and widowed, that should surely have been the status she used when she married again.
Dad did have an older sister named Louise (possibly Louise Florence) who was born about 1907 and adopted out when she was about 10.  It is believed that Loise was also the child of our mysterious William.  I have not yet tried to find more about Louise.
Christine did send me some photos of William Thomas, and I was really shocked by the likeness to, not my dad, but my brother!  Especially now that my brother is beginning to lose his hair!  However, that is not proof, but it does make me wonder.
So you can see, I am rather stuck here and don't know where to go with it. I guess we should have started this search 50 years ago when there was still someone about who may have the answers.
I have been meaning to email Christine and must get to it.  I was hoping to get my grubby mitts on a newer photo of my brother, before I did.
I also have been unwell and not on the computer, so have a big list of mail that needs answering.  So if you are in touch with Christine, please apologize on my behalf and let her know that I haven't forgotten her.
I can't think of anything else at this stage.
Thanks for your response & please keep in touch.  Who knows what we can turn up between us.
God bless you.

Hi Lyn
Oh good, -  thanks you replied before I logged off and got more wondering!!
Whats PM ! and ...yes emailing would be better please.

It all very intruiging William Thomas married at age 27 , so its possible he had other children, but I expect it going to be just coincidence regards Wyatt and Rotherhithe. But there are some roots I can look into to try and find out more. Have you any address's at all for Rotherhithe?

I expect in a few years time we could email some D.N.A
to check out connections!!
Christine is busy untill March but still very interested.

Best
Andrew

Hi Andrew
A PM is a personal message.   Scroll to the very top of the RootsChat page and on the right hand side it says..."Welcome TripeDresser You have 1 Message".  Just click on the blue writing saying 1"1 Message" and you are there.  It opens a new page off-line to other chatters.

Gran was 23 when my father was born.

The only address I have is from Dad's birth Cert and is 1 Hobman Street.  That is 1908.
I know that later gran lived at 78 Comber House, but not sure of the year.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
