G'day fellow Fewings researches

It's been interesting reading the above posts and while none of the names and places yet fit anyone from my known tree, I thought I'd pop a bit of my ancestry in and see what comes back.

I'm researching Fewings/Fewin from the Devon area from before 1832 when my ancestor John Bowden Fewings was born in Meshaw, Devon.

Working mostly from IGI I've figured his ancestry to be (starting with him)
John Bowden Fewings  (m. Helen Postlethwaite)
parents: John Fewings (m. Mary Ann Bowden) b. 1795 Bishops Nympton, Devon
GParents: William Fewing (m. Elizabeth Bushon) b. 1756 Bishops Nympton, Devon
GGParents: William Fewing (m. Sarah Vile) b. 1726 Bishops Nympton, Devon
GGGParents: William Fewen (m. Grace)

Any Comments?

I Don't have much about any of the wives so help in that area greatfully received also.

Thanks
Stephen

I also have Fewings in my family tree - just the one.

James Fewings woolcomber of North Tawton admitted being father of James the  illegitimate son of his servant Grace Gorman in 1777. My ggggg-grandfather.

I have a tentative bap for this James Fewings as 3 Mar 1750 at Monk Oakhampton and unchecked burial date of 1796 at North Tawton.

He could have married a Rose (also burial 1796??) and had a son James Fewings - would like to confirm this.

Hi Chris

I'm still not sure where the Fewings and Dart families are linked but if you give me any details you have I'll see if I can find the link for you.

When Nathanial Dart Fewings was born in 1837 all the IGI says is his mother's name Ann Fewings and he was Christened in Creacombe. I can't find the marriage of Ann to Nathaniel Davey/Davy and the next time I find any record for them is on the 1851 census in Plymouth. I don't know who Nathaniel Dart Fewings father was but I presume it was John Fewings her husband but why isn't he named as the father?.

Hi
the Dart family had a dress shop in Tiverton, a daughter, Carol (e) went to the Grammar Scholl with me but they suddenly sold up and left town. My Great Grandfather William Henry Fewings had a stome mason business, his father John came in from rose ash due to an accident on their farm and he became the registrar for deaths and ran the tiverton cemetary, married twice. My grandfather George Fewings, WH's son, took over when his dad retired  and didnt retire untill he died at about 88!
Interesting family
regards
Chris

Hi Chris

I've checked and checked and I can't find a link between John and William Henry. They may be related even further back but until I can find John's birth circa 1805 I can't tell you much more.

I've started to collect all the Fewings/Fewins/Feuns moving in ever increasing circles around Tiverton to see if I can find out where he actually came from. If I find the link I will let you know.
