Register Overview

When you are visiting RootsChat you will want to register your user name.  This allows you to keep the same identity while posting a message on RootsChat.  You can also keep track of your messages, fill out a profile (to record which surnames you are researching), select a family crest, and receive "instant messages", and take part in the "RootsChatterBox".

When looking at RootsChat.com you will see a menu across the top for "Welcome", "Index", "Help", "Search", "Login", and "Register".  Click the one that says Register. 

You will be taken to a screen where you can select an user name. You will also be prompted for:

Your Email address
Your Country (eg. perhaps "England" or "United Kingdom") (select from a drop-down menu)

Note: There is an option to "Hide EMail from public", we suggest that you do to avoid receiving unsolicited emails (called "Spam" emails). You will still be able to message other users directly by "Instant Messaging" and pass on your email address.

Read the agreement, and if you agree to it, select the "I agree" option. Quickly check that the information that you have given is correct (especially your email address), then press the "Register" button.

If your user name is available you will automatically receive an email with a temporary password - this email can take a little while to arrive, so please be patient. You will be RootsChatting in no time!

Once you have received your password you can then proceed to login to RootsChat!
