Waltham Forest Archives are housed at Vestry House Museum.
Holdings relate to the area covered by the present London Borough of Waltham Forest. Major deposits are:
- Records of the former Boroughs of Chingford, Leyton and Walthamstow (and their predecessor authorities), including school and cemetery records
- Records of parishes in Waltham Forest Deanery
Other significant holdings include:
- Manorial records
- Records of non-conformist churches
- Family and estate papers
- Records of local businesses
- Records of political and trade organisations, charities and societies
Access to the archives is strictly by appointment.
Stocktaking closure: Waltham Forest Archives and Local Studies Library
5pm Saturday 29 November to 10am on Thursday 18 December 2008.
Temporary closure is necessary to allow us to undertake stocktaking work in order to improve the availability of our holdings. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
All the other areas of Vestry House Museum will be open as usual.
