The Wertheim Family
|
Hi Guys, was wondering if anyone could look up the following families for me please?
James Turnbull, son of John Turnbull, born about 1830. The 1881 census for Chirton, Northumberland, says James was born in High Morton. He married Mary Thompson in 1850, and they later ran an Inn called Jenny Lid. On that note if anybody has a photo of that inn I'd love to hear from you. Id love to find out James' mum's name. She was born about 1828 in Cowpen Quay???
Also, I'm looking for a lady called Mary Thompson (who married James Turnbull 1850). She was born in Cowpen Quay as I said (according to the 1881), and her father was called Robert.
Any help in getting a little furter back with these families, or mother's names, would be greatly appreciated
Regards Matt

Did the marriage cert for James Turnbull/Mary Thompson say that James' father John was deceased? And what was Mary Thompson's father Robert's occupation? Were there any occupations listed for James & Mary?
A possible for Mary in 1841/51 census:
1851 HO107/2410 fol.442 p.17 Cullercoats, Tynemouth, Northumberland in household of William Brunting & family Mary Thompson serv u 22 Fisherman's servant North Shields, Northumberland
1841 HO107/821/4A fol.27 p.11 Cowpen, Horton, Northumberland THOMPSON Robert 60 Coal Miner Jane 50 Wife John 24 Coal Miner Mary 12 all born Northumberland
wonder if Mary's brother John was father-to-be of Mary Thompson/Turnbull as she was this Mary's niece? Will check later census for him tomorrow Barbara

Yes apologies, Robert Thompson, not Turnbull.
I'm a tad sceptic about the Turnbull's but I am certain the Rob Thompson found in Cowpen is mine, that is also down as Mary's birthplace on a census on our other thread.
Just a case of logging it now. It's interesting that Jenny Lind Inn was owned by James Turnbull and Mary Thompson. They must have been quite well known in Chirton Town.

These details would help
Also there's a Chirton village site, someone on there might be able to help with info about the Jenny Lind pub? http://www.chirton.org/

Hi Barbara,
The marriage cert does not give any indication John Turnbull was deceased. But James is down as being a Pitman, Mary had no occupation. There residence at time of marriage as far as I can make out was Forth Bank.
As for Robert Turnbull, as far as I can make out, his occupation was Pitman, the certificate looks like it says pirate haha! But its not...obviously
I cant make it out. It is something like Pitm(i/s)e, could be Pitman.
Hope this helps, thankyou for the link to the Chirton site I will have a look now
Matt

Unfortunately, the Chirton Village site Barbara quoted is in Wiltshire, so not the one you are looking for.
Apologies, my mistake!
Your family were not living in the 'village' of Chirton....probably nearer to Percy Main village. These days, the two connect to each other.
1891 RG12/4225 fol.84 p.37 Jenny Lind Public House, Percy Main, East Chirton, Northumberland
Yes I did give this address as Percy Main, as stated in the 1891 census

Thanks guys, I have put the info onto the tree. Interesting to see Jane Turnbull (widowed in the 1851) is a Furniturer Broker. That's a new one for me.
