Any help identifying this uniform please?
« on: Wednesday 04 October 06 20:30 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone
I was wondering if anyone might be able to help with identifying this uniform. Of course it may not even be Scottish but as i have some Scottish ancestors  i thought it likely due to the tartan-looking cap.
Any help extremely gratefully received!

Hi Sophie

Do you have an approximate date for this picture?  He was obviously stationed somewhere around Folkestone at the time, which might help in tracking down the regiment.

I certainly looks like a Scottish regiment to me, but I can't make out the little cap badge.

He is holding a riding crop, so he must have been in a mounted regiment of some kind.

Sorry I can't be of any more help without more clues to go on.

Regards, Bill

Hi Bill
Many many thanks for your help. Unfortunatly i dont have a date for this photo, but someone has now suggested that this uniform was worn by the Kings Own Scottish Borderers, around 1887-1897. The badge on his cap shows the number 25, and it was suggested that this is because he was in the 25th regiment. Im totally intrigued now, as do not have any idea who it could be at all!
