Thanks so much, Julian & Paul...This will be exciting for so many people...
My LDS is across town and about 2-21/2 hours away by bus, so it hasn't
been frequented by me, that's for sure,
but this would certainly be worth the trip. Thanks for the information....J.J.

Meant to ask, JJ - are you related to the Blunts of Oldham, by any chance?  I sincerely hope not - for your sake!  ;D

So am I right in thinking these Dade records don't (or do ?) show up on the IGI available online records ??

I've got a few dead relatives from that area ...
Dorset/Wilts/Hants: Trowbridge Williams Sturney/Sturmey Prince Foyle/Foil Hoare Vincent Fripp/Frypp Triggle/Trygel Adams Hibige/Hibditch Riggs White Angel Cake
C'wall/Devon/France/CANADA (Barkerville, B.C.): Pomeroy/Pomerai/Pomroy
Som'set: Clark(e) Fry
Durham: Law(e)
London: Hanham Poplett
Lancs/Cheshire/CANADA (Kelowna, B.C. & Sask): Stubbs Walmesley

Yes - they show up on the IGI - but you don't get all the generations.

By way of example ...

On the IGI, have a look for Sarah Clarke, born 1778 in Yorkshire.

You should get 18 results.

Have a look at number 14.   You'll see it gives a birth date, christening date, father's name and mother's name.  That's all (still more than the IGI often shows).

When you view the record for that christening on the microfilm, you'll get

Sarah's birth date
Sarah's christening date
Sarah's father and his occupation plus his father and his occupation
Sarah's mother and her father and mother, plus his occupation

The IGI can't show this as there aren't enough fields on the database.

cheers

Paul

Nice article on Dade registers on this site

http://www.pontefractfhs.org.uk/

Look under the Articles link on the left. It includes a list of at least some of the parishes which have them.

I was lucky enough to come across them for East Stoke in Notts ...they are a goldmine if you strike lucky!
Nottinghamshire: Willmott, Williams, Oldham, Padgett, Burden, Stokes, Huskinson, Tuckwood, Morley, Barnett
Lincolnshire: Foster, Dennis, Mowbray
Leicestershire: Mowbray,Hudson, Tuckwood
Derbyshire: Starbrook
Somerset: Willmott, Elliott
Cork:Driscoll, Murphy
London Surrey:Driscoll, Cheesman
London Kent:Cheesman
Kent:Cheesman, Davis, West, Hills, Kneller, Bones, Eastup

Hi Peter,

Thank you so much for bringing this to our attention! I do not know there was a historical significance about the Dade registers!

I have a lot of Yorkshire ancestors from this time period--I do not have any entries that show such information like the Dade registers.

Perhaps they were from the Bishop's Transcript??

My ancestors hailed from Yarm, Crathrone, Hutton Ruddy, Loftus, Maltby, Richmond, and one more place--could not remember its name.

Thank you again for the fascinating information!

Kind regards,

Tees

Thank you very much for this information. I didn't know about this. A few of mine and my partners have mother's maiden names.

I looked up your Sarah Clarke. Her parent's names are higlighted, and when you click on them, it takes you to a page with space for THEIR parents names to be entered, but this is blank. (There's nowhere for occupations).

I've always found this page blank, usually with just the one child listed as born to those parents.

I guess they didn't get round to filling this information in?

Hi Ruskie

I think it's just that the IGI only has so many fields in it's database that can be completed.  For the vast majority of parish record entries, they only need a limited number of fields.  So they probably designed the database around that.  Unfortunately, it doesn't lend itself for those records (like the Dade or Barrington ones) that have more detail.

I like to think of it as 'What The IGI Doesn't Tell You'!

cheers

Paul
