1911 Census Districts
« on: Tuesday 20 January 09 19:41 GMT (UK) »
In the "1911 Census" discussion Paul Caswell mentioned the table of census districts which he had complied from The National Archives (TNA) site.

With his (and TNA's) permission, RootsChat is now publishing his table as part of the RootsChat Reference Library.

Are the mising counties published anywhere else, or in paper format? I am particularly interested in Cumberland. Forgive me if I have missed an answer on a previous thread.

Hi Maryd,

I have tried quite hard to find a definitive list of counties, as you can imagine this is not an easy task. The only truly correct county list could only come from BrightSolid as only they can truly know which county each place appears in in their database.

I am trying to make contact with them. So far I have had no response. I am patient.

Meanwhile:

If you know exactly where you want to look, find it in the list and use the census reference field on 1911.

If you have a 'find' and want to know exactly where TNA says it was, start with the 1911 location and refine your search with RD then SD and finally walk up the ED's until you have a full reference. Once you have the reference, finding other family members is easy so long as it is not a common name (like Turner  ??? ).

Added
If you have a census reference and want to know more accurately where it was just look it up.

Thank you!!!Will try this tomorrow as it is late now. Will let you know how I get on....surnames quite unusual which helps, but transcription errors are common which doesn't help...DENVIR can be Denver; Denvier; Dever; Dennis; de Vere etc.... but thank you all the same.
