I wonder if anyone can help i am trying to trace my grandfathers family i know he was born 2 12 1903 in oswestry (i,m waiting for his bc to find out his mothers name ) my mum says that she was told that his mother was not married when she had him and that he was brought up by his grandparents he married my Nana in 1930 in pontypridd from there wedding cerft his fathers name is down as john morris grandad name was john Edward but known as Ted i have found on the 1911 census as it came under oswestry came under Shropshire morris j Edward (RG14PN16126 RG78PN996 RD350 SD2 SN22) i also he joined the army  my Nana's maiden name was French and her brothers was witness to there marrage his name was Emmanuel
he moved to London abt 1938 but mum remember going back and seeing the family  grandads father was meant to be well to do

It may be better to wait until his birth cert arrives and post details of his mothers name - unless he was with his mother in 1911

Can you post full details of the family from the 1911 entry including where they were living at that time

It may be better to wait until you find his mothers name as Morris is a very common surname

i got my grandads birth cert this morning his mother name was Elizabeth morris and it looks like what my mum told me is true as there is no fathers name  and the address she has given is the same as on the 1911 census that i have found  i spoke to mum this morning to see if my grandad knew the name of his father  but she said he only ever called him square as mum said they used to see him at chapel when she was little
