Mary Farrell of Philadelphia?
« on: Thursday 25 February 10 22:26 GMT (UK) »
Hello all :)

My great-great-grandmother was Mary Farrell. She was born in Jun of 1862 in Pennsylvania. She married Thomas Timlin in 1883 in Philadelphia and together they had 9 kids.

I'm trying to find more on Mary Farrell. I've looked a little but can't always find stuff. You guys know exactly where to look sometimes :P

Farrell may not be the exact spelling. A fuzzy sound search would probably be best. Hopefully someone can find something :)

If you need the names of the kids I can provide them.

This one is always a good start - www.pilot.familysearch.org should give you some census info  ;D

Lots of Mary Farrell in Pennsylvania on the 1880 census who are possibles so would need more info on her before her marriage in 1883.

Thomas is a widow by 1920 according to anc..try tree.

That's the bad thing :P I don't have much information on her before her marriage. All I have is her birth month and year.

Yes, she died around 1912. I'm not sure of an exact year though.

Neither the 1870 or 1880 census give month or year so thats not an option.

Could do with finding the marriage certificate which should give her parents names (hopefully)  - anything in RAOGK for Pennsylvania ?

Just recently found out some new information on the Farrell's.

Mary had a brother named Lawrence who was a priest. I have a tiny bit more information about Lawrence on my computer upstairs so I will add an edit after.

EDIT: He was a Holy Ghost Father and worked down South.

According to the 1900 census, her parents were born in Ireland.

Listing her children from the 1900 census, in case she followed a naming pattern: Kate, Cecelia, William, Lawrence, Annie, Thomas, Bernard.

1910 census includes children:
Helen and Andrew.
Aunt, Mary Clarke?, age 65, born Ireland, widowed, living with the family.
Ellison: Co. Wicklow/Canada       Fowley: Sligo/Canada       Furnival: Lancashire/Canada       Ibbotson: Sheffield/Canada       Lee/DeJongh: Lancashire & Cheshire       Mumford: Essex/Canada       Ovens: Ireland/Canada       Sarge: Yorkshire/Canada             Stuart: Sligo/Canada       Sullivan: Co. Clare/Canada      Vaus: Sussex/Surrey      Wakefield: Tuam or Ballinasloe, Ireland              (Surname: Originated/Place Last Lived)  (Canadians lived in Ontario)

Hello Bullfrog.

I have tried to match a Mary 1862 with a brother Lawrence on the 1880 census and come up with this option :-

1880 Census Philadelphia,  Pennsylvania.  Unfortunately I cannot find this family on any other census before 1880  ???

Patrick Farrell 50 Born Ireland Labourer
Ellen Farrell 50 Born Ireland
John M. Farrell 21 Painter
Mary C. Farrell 18 (Could the "C" stand for Cecilia ?)Works In Cotton Mill
Annie Farrell 15 Works In Cotton Mill
William J. Farrell 14 Works In Cotton Mill
Larance A. Farrell 11 Works in Cotton Mill
Joseph P. Farrell 8

I wonder if this is more than a possibility because the age of this Lawrence would fit the above.

1930 Census Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Broad Street

Lawrence Farrell 61 Clergyman Owns home $15,000
Eugene Fisher 35 Lodger
James Clark 36 Lodger
Thomas Naughton 54 Lodger
Patrick Brennan 33 Lodger
Nickolas O Loughlin 46 Lodger
Francis West 56 Lodger
