« on: Wednesday 09 June 10 19:24 BST (UK) »
Hi
Can anyone help please.
I have 2 birth certificates on dated 1876 Father and one 1906 Son
District Adare, Union Croom, County Limerick,

address on both given as Bagerfort, on the 1911 U K census both born Killalo,
1901 and 1911 Irish Census family in Killao.

can anyone tell me why the Office where they where registered says Workhouse Croom
Thanks
Saint.

Hi
At the bottom above the date of issue,
and at the side it gives you the name of the Superintendant Registrar

thank you

date of issue ?

It doesn't sound like a research cert to me... maybe some sort of transcript cert..

is it printed/typed or in handwriting ?

sample of a blank birth cert - research certs like this are photocopies of the original register

I think a cert with a date of issue is a certified copy of some sort. Maybe the registrar had his office in part of the workhouse. The registration districts were based on the same boundaries as the poor law union districts, so there would have been a workhouse at the centre of each of these.

What's the date of issue on the certs ?

Hi
Thanks for your help
They are handwritten certs.the older on is a copy of a hand written one
the second is the original. both are dated the 27th January 1917.

they must have been sent for some purpose here in the uk.

The important addresses are the place of birth and residence of father.

These are sections 2 'Date and place of birth' and 5 'Name surname and Dwelling place of father' on the cert sample above.

Badgerfort is a townland of just 110 acres in the Civil parish of Kilpeacon. It's not marked on modern maps but is (see following post) It's in a different civil parish to the town of Croom and the workhouse, which located just north east of the town and in the civil parish of Croom.
