Is there any way I can find out why Frank was put in an asylum? I know it says in the census that he was an 'idiot from birth' but would I be able to get hold of any medical records?

Hi Emma,

Just how did you manage to post thirteen detailed requests for information yesterday within six hours?

Due to other commitments, I don't have time to respond in full to your posts but your TAYLOR and SEAWARD families are well recorded in Bridgnorth.

Here are a few records of your SEAWARD family from my own collection of Bridgnorth records;

Albert SEAWARD, Carpet packer, age 73 of 9 Bernard's Hill. Buried 22 March 1939. Grave No. 1625 New Consecrated.
Emma SEAWARD, Widow, age 74. Buried 2 Aug 1912. Grave No. 1625 New Consecrated.
Frank SEAWARD, Son of William & Emma, age 20. Buried 24 Dec 1889. Grave No. 1470 New Consecrated.
Herbert SEAWARD, Son of Albert & Mary, age 2 months. Buried 5 Sept 1899. Grave No. 1623 New Consecrated.
Mary SEAWARD, Wife of Albert, age 67 of 9 Bernard's Hill. Buried 6 March  1933. Grave No. 1623 New Consecrated.
Thomas SEAWARD, Shoemaker, age 59 of the Union Workhouse. Buried 22 Sept 1919. Grave No. 0510 Consecrated.

If I find time this weekend, I'll see if there are any memorial headstones.
Source - my own transcript of the Bridgnorth Municipal Cemetery record book.

Alice SEAWARD married Samuel TAYLOR on 30 Oct 1892 at St Mary's Church, Bridgnorth.
Albert SEAWARD married Mary TAYLOR on 25 Dec 1894 at St Mary's Church, Bridgnorth.

Do you have the full details?
Source - my own transcript of Bridgnorth marriages not on the IGI.

The 19 October 1918 issue of The Bridgnorth Journal (the local weekly newspaper) includes a list of 33 men who were Prisoners of War. The list includes Frank Wilfred SEAWARD.

The 25 Sept 1920 issue of The Bridgnorth Journal includes mention that;
Frank Wilfred, eldest son of Mr & Mrs SEAWARD of Bernard’s Hill, was married at St Leonard’s Church to Elsie, third dau of Mr & Mrs GRIFFITHS of St Mary’s Street.

Hi Gwynne!

Well the reason I have so much time on my hands is that I'm a teacher and I'm on 5 weeks holiday. I thought this would be the best time to do all my research.

You seem to have some fantastic information on the Seaward family from the sources you mentioned. I had a look at the link you sent me and I'm very interested in the Bridgnorth Journal books. Do you think there will be enough references of the Seaward and Taylor famillies to warrant me purchasing both books?

You also mentioned you had your own transcripts of the Bridgnorth Municipal Cemetery record book and Bridgnorth marriages. How would I get a copy of these? Is it even possible to get copies of them?

Would you by any chance have any information on the Hermitage caves? I know that my Seaward ancestors tenanted the caves for many years and there is a family rumour that the Seaward family either made the caves habitable or built the Custodian cottage in Bridgorth. I have scoured the internet and ancestry websites but have found nothing yet.

Also if you have any information on the Taylor family and you have the time to look into it I would be interested to see what you have.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my post. The information you have given me so far is excellent.

Hope to hear from you soon

Emma

Emma,

I've photographed the SEAWARD memorials in Bridgnorth cemetery for you.

You will find them on a web page I use for such things at
http://www.rafbridgnorth.org.uk/familyhistory/variousfolder/various.html

Many inscriptions on one stone read;
In Loving Memory of William SEAWARD. Died August 25 1896, aged 58 years.
Also of Philip SEAWARD, Father of the above. Late of Hermitage Hill. Died August 30 1896, aged 90 years.
Also of Emma SEAWARD. Died July 30 1912, age 74 years.
Also Mary, Wife of Albert SEAWARD. Died March 2nd 1933, aged 68 years.
Also Albert SEAWARD. Died March 18th 1939.
On the reverse of the same stone;
Also Samuel Taylor. Died Dec 7 1939, aged 67 years.
Also Walter H TAYLOR. Died Oct 28th 1940, aged 40 years.
Also Alice, Wife of Samuel TAYLOR. Died March 28th 1943, aged 69 years.

Two other adjacent memorials read;
In Memory of Wilf SEAWARD Died Dec 19 1969 aged 73.
Frank Cyril TAYLOR. Born 1st Aug 1904. Died 30th June 1987. Reported to be the last of the cave dwellers of Bridgnorth.

Here are two further burials from the Bridgnorth Municipal Cemetery record book. I had mistakenly transcribed them as LEAWARD.

William SEAWARD, Boot maker, age 58. Buried 28 Aug 1896. Grave No.1626 New Consecrated.
Philip SEAWARD, Labourer, age 90. Buried 3 Sept 1896. Grave No.1627 New Consecrated.

To answer your specific questions.
My own data base transcripts of the burial books and Church marriages are not available for sale. However, I'm always willing to freely provide information from them, time permitting.
I have over 70 TAYLOR burials on file but it would be several weeks at least before I have time to present that and other information.

I have information and photographs from many sources about the Hermitage caves. In another posted message, you offered to share your information. Please send me a copy to compare with what I have.

Gwynne
