Welcome to this weeks Scavenger Hunt, and it will either be solved in the first 30 minutes.......... or it will take most of the thread!! Yep, it's one of those
Good Luck and Good Hunting

I think this one will be pretty easy for RootsChatters.
I have a John WINBUSH (or do I have 2?) who seems to suddenly change his place of birth.
He varies between Wimbush and Winbush, but that's not too odd.
The easiest way for me to do this is to list the facts I am sure of and the facts I am not so sure of.
John WINBUSH son of Edward John WINBUSH and Sarah STEPHENS
Born 16 Jan 1854 (thank the clerk who wrote it on the baptism entry).
GRO Birth Entry - John WINBUSH Q1 1854 London 1c 101

John's father, Edward, died near the end of Feb 1874 (buried Feb 28)
John's mother, Sarah, and his siblings (Sarah, William, Charles, Louisa and Helena) moved to Penge, Surrey by 1881
From here on I'm not 100% sure if I have the same John or if this is a different John.
I can not find John (or at least not one which I believe ties in here) in 1881
Census 1891 - RG12-124-F138-P38 - 42 Calthorpe Street, St Pancras
John L WINBUSH - boarder - S - 37 - artist designs + illustrations sculp - Warwick
I know John (from the first part)'s father was originally from Warwick, but he (John) was living with his family in London at least until he was 17 so it's not as if he was born in London but grew up in Warwick and so maybe thought he was born there.
There's also the addition of the middle initial "L".
I know the occupation fits but art, horses and the church go hand in hand with the Wimbush/Winbush family.
Census 1901 - RG13-137-F134-P33 - 8 Fitzroy Street, St Pancras
John WIMBUSH - Head - S - 49 - Artist (Painter) Sculp - Warwick
I'm sure this is the same John as in 1891, but is it the same John as in the first part?
I also have him in 1911 as John Lewis WINBUSH - living alone - 60. He gives his occupation as "painting artist" and the industry as "painting pictures", again birth place of Warwick. Living in Dartmouth.
GRO Death Entry - John WINBUSH Q1 1914 Totnes 5b 266 (age 60)
I have a note next to his death entry (but I am ashamed to say I did not write down the source) that he was buried as J L WIMBUSH.
John WIMBUSH, artist, was a friend of James McNeill Whistler and supplied the studio, chair and rug used in the painting "Arrangement in Grey and Black: The Artist's Mother", which is famous under it's colloquial name "Whistler's Mother" (Anna McNeill Whistler), an 1871 oil-on-canvas painting.
He was also apparently friends with Albert Ludovici, Claude Monet and Walter Sickert (suspected of being Jack the Ripper).
I have digital copies of 3 paintings by John Lewis WIMBUSH
An Opium Den at Lime Street - 60x40 oil-on-canvas
Toy Seller
Vegetable Seller
Is this one or two Johns? Can John be found in 1881?Is there any further information on his friendship with Whistler?
