« on: Tuesday 21 December 10 09:11 GMT (UK) »

Welcome to this weeks Scavenger Hunt, sorry it's late but I was without power for four days, hence the week delay.  I hope you can find Chrislb's mystery person.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Barbara

                                   **************************

James Bing born c1840 Dover, Kent/Sussex (one census records his birthplace as Hever)

Married Diana (also known as Hannah/DiHannah) White on 13 Aug 1865 in Croydon, Surrey.

Had the following children: Thirza, George (married Mary Ann Russon), Phoebe, Rebecca, James & Ivy.

on Marriage certificate James's father is James Bing, Labourer.

James died in September 1887 at Brookwood Asylum, Woking, Guildford, Surrey at the age of 47.

According to his DC his name was 'William James'.

In 1881 at the time of the census the family lived at 13 Seldon Terrace, Camberwell, Surrey.

Have not found birth record for him, nor any records pertaining to his family.

Any help appreciated.

Who are the witnesses on the marriage cert?

Do you have him in the 1841 & 1851 census ? (or even the 1861?)

have you found this James Bing in the census he should be slightly older than yours if you ahve foudn him howevr we can rule this birth out

Name: James Bing
Year of Registration: 1837
Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
District: Hollingbourne
County: Kent
Volume: 5
Page: 195

i am pretty sure it was ST Mary the Virgin Church at Dover have you looked at their B's on IGI they are there or familysearch.beta?

although civil registartion began in 1837 some people were misguided and thought they could have the child baptised OR registred and not both so you may not find a birth but should be able to find a christening
i think i  am  right in also saying that unless they were jews or quakers events such as christenings had to take place in a church of england consecrated bulding i.e. a church

Hi all

Long time since I've been on a scavenger hunt  ;D

http://thesussexweald.org/B10.asp?BookId=HeverPR163&v=0&xid=B&xnm=1 - the hever parish records are online and although 1840 is missing (**** law) there is no other Bings so likelihood is he wasn't baptised there.
