I am trying to find the parents of my g-g-grandfather Thomas Roper born 1810 Irvinestown, Fermanagh.
My g-g-grandfather married Jane/Jean Adam in 1835 in Paisley, Scotland and he is shown on the 1841 census with wife and family.
He arrived Victoria on the Andromache in 1848 and died in Victoria in 1885.
His parents - unknown
Grandparents (Trotter)
David Trotter & Catherine Allen maried 1789 in Airth, Scotland (not confirmed) taken from LDS site.
I have a birth for Catherine in Airth (not confirmed) but can find nothing for David, except the marriage. As for the rest of their family they have never been born, married or died! The birthdates for the family listed below are approximate for the poll and except for Catherine (and George once) the names listed below have been used frequently throughout the years by the Ropers. Other names used frequently were Agnes, Mary and Robert.
1821 census - Irvinestown, Fermanagh (Derryvollin)
David Trotter (72) Farmer, 10 acres - born 1749
Catherine (59) wife - born 28/9/1760
George (29) son - born 1792
William (16) son - born 1805
Alexander (13) - son born 1808
Catherine (22) - daughter born 1799
Thomas Roper (11) - grandson - born 1810
There is also a 1788 Poll of Electors which shows a David Trotter, Irvinestown and a lot of other Trotters in other places in Fermanagh, but other than these two I cannot find any census information for any of them in Ireland or Scotland.
For my g-g-grandfather to have the surname Roper, I would presume a Trotter daughter gave birth to him, so there must be other children that were not on the 1821 census - and where were they?
I wonder if David had been married and perhaps widowed before his marriage to Catherine, but even so there are a lot of years in between children named in the above census and I also wonder if the other two born 1805 and 1808 were their children, as Catherine was getting quite old when they were born and parents sometimes made out their grandchildren were theirs for propriety sake. There again this is only supposition on my part.
In the 1821 census there was a William Trotter (32) from Irvinestown so perhaps he is David's by a prior marriage.
The above is all the information I have as Thomas' death certificate shows 'not known' under parents names.
