Marriage at Holwell, 13 July 1828

Is it possible to see whether William Mardling and Mary Dawbone were widowed when they married, and were there any witnesses?  Any help much appreciated.

Thank you for getting back to me.  Unfortunately, I don't have access to the website you mention but if the details on there are correct I now think I may have the wrong wife for William!

William was born in Preston in about 1792 and he married his first wife in Ickleford in 1817 but she died the following year 1818.  His wife Mary died in 1864, apparently born in about 1795 in Essex, and he died in 1876.  Their 7 children were all born in Hatfield between 1827 and 1841. 
That's the trouble with names like William and Mary so I think it's back to the drawing board!

To find Marys Maiden name and if she was nee... I was going to suggest you could purchase the Birth Cert of their Son James.

If Mary was from Essex they may have met and Married anywhere.

Now that I have found the 1851 Census for them, there are other Children whose Certs you could purchase.

Thank you for this info.  There was another son born after James and that was William, who was baptised 31 Oct 1841 and buried 17 July 1842 although he does not appear to have been registered.  Therefore, I think obtaining a birth certificate for James may be the only answer.

Hello Trish
Thanks for the extra information but I have actually managed to go back to 1709 in Bedfordshire.  I have also managed to trace most of William and Mary's children, grandchildren and ggg grand children up to 1958.  I think I had thought that William had married Mary Dawbone because it was the only marriage I could find for about the right time. 
I also found 3 births for a William and Mary in Ayot St Lawrence between 1819 and 1822, but again I could find no marriage.
