These months don't half go quickly, don't they.

So, here we are in June so please carry on with all your ancestral BMDs and other special occasions.

I have only one birthday to mark today and that is of a 1st cousin x 3, Elspet Cruikshank Raitt, who was born in Monymusk on 1st June 1874.

Today my lovely daughter is entering her first 10k race and just to make things more difficult for herself she has opted for one which goes across open fellside as well as tarmac roads. I shall be there, cheering her on and making sure there is a photographic record of the occasion. ;)

On this day in 1783, Esther Charlesworth, my great X 3 grandmother was baptised at Holy Trinity, Holmfirth.
She was born at Cliff in Wooldale to JOshua Charlesworth and Martha Thorpe at unknown date
She married in 1802 to Jonas Cook at All Hallows, Almondbury, occupation unknown
They had 7 children of whom 2 died young
Esther died in Holmfirth in 1826 and Jonas died at Upper Bridge in Holmfirth in 1829

Also

On this day in 1921 my great grandfather Edward Jackson died of Cancer of the Oesophagus
He was aged 61. He had been a mine manager at Bredbury, and previously Breightmet and Pendleton.

While an under manager at Hyde Colliery in 1889 when there was a terrible explosion , killing 23 people. He had to give evidence at the inquest over several days. He found some of the bodies himself

A match was held between Newton Heath and Ardwick in aid of the families (Man U v Man C now) at Bellvue under floodights, and 10,000 attended.

Edward was buried at St Mark's Bredbury.

HIs Widow Ann, 12 years his senior (though she must have fibbed about her age as always too young on censuses when with him) lived until 1940

On 1st June 1828 my 4xG grandfather Henry Downs died in Bo'ness. He was a baker and married to Janet Richardson. I'm sure there were more children but the only ones I have so far are Jane (my 3xG grandmother), Robert, Henry and Richardson. My Downs are still a work in progress but I think he was born in Falkirk. While in Bo'ness last year hunting down the grave of my 4xG grandparents, I came across that of his grandson, could only be him as I am sure there wouldn't be many with the first name Walkinshaw. This grave told me that this grandson lost 5 children between 1848 and 1858.

On 1 June
In 1862 my 3 x great grandfather, Joseph Sewell, died in Shoreditch, London, aged 90.  He was born in Appleby, Westmorland, into a family of coopers, a trade which he continued after he came to London some time in the late 1700s.

My aunt, Doris Giovannelli Wilson, married Stanley Arthur Whitnell Wilson in 1929, in West Ham.  They were not related, so she didn't change her name on marriage.

John Henry Conquest, a second cousin 2x removed, died in 1954, at the Royal Northern Hospital, Islington, London, aged 79.

Conquest, Crowsley, Giovannelli, Kingham, Marshall, Sewell, Wilson, Ashwell

John Howard & Elizabeth Pennington my husband’s 4 x g.grandparents married at St Nicholas Church, Liverpool in 1789

Ann Cockett my g.g.aunt was born at Holbeach in 1844.  Unfortunately, on the same day Ann Cockett (nee Day) her mother and my 2 x g.grandmother died of a uterine haemorrhage, leaving her husband with 2 boys aged 2 and 3 and the new baby.

John Woodward my 3 x g.grandfather was baptised at St Laurence Church, Frodsham, Cheshire in 1771

Thomas Clark(e) my husband’s 2 x g.g.uncle was baptised at St Mary’s Church, Warwick in 1831.  Sometimes his name was spelt with an e on the end and sometimes without.

Richard Broth(w)ell  my 7 x g.grandfather was buried at Woolsthorpe, Lincolnshire in 1720.  Sometimes his name was spelt with a w and sometimes without.
