andyhayes Scavenger Hunt......Everyone Welcome To Join In

Welcome to this weeks Scavenger Hunt.... It's an Irish conundrum and Andy is hoping somebody can point him in the right direction.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Barbara

                                        *****************************

John William Hayes born 1870 in Whitby is the son of John Hayes born 1830 in Limerick (where exactly
I do not know) he died in Whitby Workhouse in 1884 (although I dont think he was an inmate as there is an obit. in the Whitby Gazette)

John Snr married Margaret Leadley in Whitby in 1868 (she was previously Anderson) I also think John had been married before probably in Ireland.  John has a brother Cornelius, also born in Limerick in 1832.

Irish history seems difficult to work out but I think John and Cornelius' father is also named John possibly born 1810.

Who did John Snr marry, where and when?

Any help would be fantastic, I cant even order a cert at the moment as I dont know which would give me the most information.

1861 has John listed as a widower & that should be the same on his marriage cert. You will need this for his father's name.

Now I'm confused,do you mean John & his brother Cornelius married the same year?
They couldn't have been married for long if he was a widower & childless in 1861 & there's only 1 female Hayes death registered in Whitby & that's Ann Sept. 1856.
John Hayes married Elizabeth Tose on 5th. April 1856 Hinderwell.
Parents Thomas Hayes & Isaac Surr.
John was 37 & Elizabeth 35.
I can't see an Elizabeth Hayes b. C. 1821 in 1861 so she may have been calling herself Ann.
What is the info. on John's 1868 marriage ?

Yeah sorry it's his brother. A bit of a strange one then, johns marriage 1868 is as above and I can trace all Hayes links to me from that.

If you have his marriage cert. why do you think his father's name is John?

If John's marriage in 1868 has the same birth year how can he be the same as the John b.1830 ?

I don't have his cert, in 1861 he is a widow. He re-marrys in 1868.

I think his Father is John from another tree on ancestry

His first marriage could have been in Ireland and possible he was already a widower when he arrived in England.
