Hi Folks
First of all, have some sunshine from Glasgow 8)
I'm a little bit 'in the mire' with this one and as usual I'm looking for help.
Mary MAPSTON my 6th g'granny was born/chr in Horsmonden Kent on 8 Jun 1730. The notes I have (inherited) are extremely scant. Any advice/assistance as to how I may find her parents/siblings etc...I promise you my last Rolo ;D in any event.
Other information I have on her is that she married Leonard LAMBKIN on 8 Jun 1747 Horsmonden at the age of 17yrs. I'm afraid I have no other information apart from the fact there were only 5 children born to them. I say 'only' in it's context with 'those' days :(
Richard LAMBKIN was the last child dob 13 Jul 1760 which, as you can see, puts her at 30ish
Any help most appreciated.

Hello Rog
I have some of the Horsmonden PRs on fiche.
I assume from what you say that you do not know the names of Mary's parents. I can have a look at her baptism and a few years either side to see if she had any siblings if this would help.
Do you have full details of her marriage entry? If not I will take a look and should at least be able to find out the names of the witnesses.
May take a day or so, but before I start can you confirm what you need?

Hi Barbara,
That was kind of you to write to me with the offer of help.
Mary MAPSTON marr Leonard LAMBKIN on 8 Jun 1747 in Horsmonden, Kent.
She was born/christened on 8 Jun 1730 in Horsmonden, Kent all as per message board.
If I am fortunate enough to get her parents and possibly siblings I would be extremely grateful :)
That's all I have my friend. If it's a non starter may I thank you anyway for offering to help?
Kind regards
Rog....wet and windy Glasgow.

Hi Rog
Not good news I'm afraid. :(
The marriage is recorded but no witnesses and, even worse, Mary does not seem to have been baptised in Horsmonden. I looked several years either side of 1730 but no Mary and no other Mapstons either. There were no baptisms recorded on 8 June.
Where did you get the info that she was baptised in Horsmonden? I have to say that it was not a surname I recognised as being from that parish.

Hi Barbara,
Oh dear, well thanks a million for trying for me.
I was inclined to think that I got the info from the IGI..(let me check again)...nope, not from there. The marriage I DID get from the IGI though but that wont help in this particular matter. I've been through my 'notes' and can't find where I got that birth date from. I am annoyed at myself >:( and another one >:( because I always advocate meticulous note taking.....hhmmmmm.
Leave it meantime whilst I addle my grey matter..
Kind regards
Rog
...hmmm where DID I get that from??

Hi Barbara,
The info was on the back of a fag packet.
I've just found the notes. One World Tree on Ancestry.com. The submitters (three I think) are all distant cousins of mine. As to date there have been no new submissions with regard to Mary MAPSTON. I will contact them tonight and request a source. I have spoken to the in times past, very helpful, one from Sussex, one from the States.
I'll let you know how I get on.
Kind regards
Rog :)

Hope they can come up with something useful. I did wonder whether someone had just taken a date 17 years before the marriage - both events took place on 8 June!

I noticed that too but wrote it off as coincidental....long shot though. Oh well.

I know this thread is from a long time ago, but I have MAPLESDEN relatives from the same area. A few index transcriptions I’ve seen have some variations in spelling so wondered if maybe MAPSTON could be one of them?
