I'm looking for the baptism of ADONIJAH BEVIS, born about 1815 (information from census) on all census he states born Titchfield & is always to be found in SARISBURY & connected with the sea - mariner.
The IGI doesn't seem to have much representation of Titchfield :( so hoping someone can help with pr's or BVRI which will give his father's name.
He married someone by the name of BETSEY, March quarter 1849, Southampton (7 256)
In addition to the above, I'm also looking for baptism of NATHAN BEVIS, Titchfield about 1805.
Many thanks,
Jane

Sorry i can't help with the baptism but did any of our Bevis family move to London?

Not that I know of Amy. They stayed around the Titchfield area,

Hi Jane
Sorry this has taken me so long, you may already have this info from another source, but Fareham Museum has been closed for refurbishment and today was the first chance I had to check the Baptism records for you.
I checked July 1813 – Feb 1815, but stopped when I found the entry you needed –
1814 – Adonijah son of David and Sarah Bevis of Sarisbury. Proffession Mariner
Also in that fiche were:
1813
July 25th Mary daughter of James and Mary Bevis of Titchfield, Labourer
1814
August 7th James son of Thomas and Elizabeth Bevis of Hook, Wheelwright
August 7th William son of William and Sarah of Lee, Labourer
prior to that I checked Titchfield Feb 1815 – Oct 1816 and recorded for your interest
1816
August 4th Hiram son of David and Sarah Bevis of Sarisbury, Mariner
SO it looks like Adonijah had a brother !!!!!!
August 4th Mary daughter of William and Sarah Bevis of Lee, Labourer
I also checked October 1802 - Jan 1807 for Nathan. I could not see him, but the records are damaged, so I really can not be sure if he is there. Sorry.
In my excitement I did not record the date of Adonijah’s baptism, so will check it for you next time I’m in Fareham
All best wishes

Hi Jane,
With apologies to wendi for butting in, but she brought it to my attention with her post today.
There appear to have been five sons of David and Sarah, all baptised in Titchfield:
Adonijah 6 Nov 1814
Hiram 4 Aug 1816
Asher 6 Sep 1818
Obediah 17 Sep 1820 bur 9 Oct 1825 aged 5
Abijah 15 Jan 1826 bur 24 Jun 1827 aged 1
The other sons seem to have made it past 1837!

Wendi, thank you so much for remembering me!!! That information is most welcome. Pity the registers are damaged but will continue to look for the parentage of Nathan!
Nell, a big thank you to you as well :)

Hi
I realise that this is an older post but I've just come on to this site. Adonijah Bevis was my 3rd great grandfather. He appears to have been one of 9 siblings all with very biblical names. I am happy to exhange info with any contacts.
