I would greatly appreciate a lookup in the 1841 census for Northampton (probably St Giles) for my ancestor Thomas Pearson, a whitesmith, b. abt 1785 outside of Northants. Living with Thomas should be his wife Sarah, b. abt 1790 outside Northants, and son Frederick, b. abt 1831 in Northampton. Thomas' sons Stephen, b. abt 1807, a whitesmith, and Charles, b. abt 1822, both in Northampton, should be living close by.
Thanks, rthom

Many thanks, RuthT. That certainly was lightning fast! With people like you, this board really is a fabulous resource. And, yes, the John Pearson you found is another of Thomas' sons. I am wondering if the 1841 census listings you found had reference numbers (e.g. HO107/1797/21/1)?
Regards, rthom

Many thanks for all this wonderful info, Sandy. This has helped fill in some of the blanks for this large family. My big challenge now is to find where patriarch Thomas Pearson, b. abt 1783, came from, as unfortunately the 1841 census just teases us with "not born in county" and he died in 1846 before the broader info of the 1851 census was recorded.
Thomas was already in Northampton when he married his 1st wife Elizabeth Lee in 1803 when he was about 20. He married his 2nd wife Sarah Edwards in 1829, also in Northampton -- and interestingly she was also born outside of Northants according to the 1841 census. Another small clue perhaps. It's possible that Thomas came to Northampton as an apprentice whitesmith which may have a record somewhere. I'll be interested in any thoughts on that subject. Thomas' eldest son was named William, his second son was named Stephen (fairly uncommon), and his eldest daughter was named Eliza, as a possible clue to the names in the earlier generation.
Cheers, rthom

Hi rthom
I have a bit more information to add to the 2 marriages and burial. Will do later today as it is time for bed. :)
You may like to try the Northamptonshire Record Office to see if they hold a list of Whitesmith's for the town.
Will be in touch later.
Cheers Sandy

Hi Sandy:
Thanks again. I'll see what I can come up with at the NRO. Many counties appear to have record keeping for apprenticeships.

Hi Sandy:
I do apologize for not responding to the last three postings before. I was going through my old Northants postings to clear out the completed records and found your postings that I had not thanked you for. :( :( :(
