Title: Joseph Henry Thomas COMPLETE
Post by: anneymouse on Monday 02 January 06 21:09 GMT (UK)
Wondering if anyone here could give me some direction, I know the above details are correct about my grandfather, but I haven't a clue what his father/mother were called.  I know his parent's weren't married when he was born, and his father was Italian.  Any guidance welcomed gratefully  :)

Thank you so much for your reply :)  Would I have to visit these register offices to see the full certificates?  I haven't been down that road, I have a copy certificate for him, but it is a short one which doesn't contain any details.  Thanks again for your help.

Thank you so much :) I have just managed to order my grandfather and my grandmother's online.  Thing is, my grandmother's family all emigrated from Spain to Wales, you would think the name Pura Trancho would be easily searchable, but I am drawing blanks there too.  I can't wait for the certificates to arrive!

Thanks for your welcome too, fascinating stuff this!

I will post them as soon as I get them :)

I have no idea, at first I thought my grandmother was born in Spain, and my grandfather born in Italy, but it turns out that it was their parent's who crossed the sea, and they were both born in Wales.  I've googled Spanish and Italian migration and didn't really find anything specific :(

I've since found that both Spanish and Italians migrants arrived around the turn of the century :)  Seems the Spanish came to work the iron ore, and the Italians to feed the people  ;D  Time for bed now I think, still fascinated though :)

I don't have the marriage cert, do you think it would be wise to get hold of that?  She died on the 3/4/89, God rest her soul x

Hi

Well the Marriage certificate will give you the following information

Ages of them both
address they lived at
Thier occupations
And both Father's and their occupations as well

also you will get 2 witness's which in a lot of cases can be family members

Details of the marriage are as follows

Marriages Jun Q 1934

Thomas Joseph Spouse Trancho Merthy T 11a Page 1496
Trancho Pura Spouse Thomas Merthy T 11a Page 1496

Angie

You can gain a lot of information and could possibly help get you onto the 1901 census and tracing backwards as their father's should obviously be around by then ;D

PS it soon gets addictive LOL

Ahh I see!  Those page numbers, where do you find those please?  I think I would have been better off with their marriage cert, but I didn't know any dates at the time.  It would have saved me getting both birth certs to get parent's names.  I will make sure I get those next time.  I am dead excited about the Census info :-)  Did I read someplace that you can buy that on disk?

The birth certificates I've been eagerly awaiting haven't arrived yet, but I just got notification of a refund - apparently Pura wasn't born between 1910 and 1912 in Merthyr, as it says on the marriage certificate  ???

Hello

I have found her Birth but she has not been registered under Trancho

Here goes

Birth's December Q 1911
Francho Pura Mother's maiden Name Montes Merthyr T 11a Page 1620

Also found this

Birth's Sep Q 1910
Trancho Santiago Merthyr T 11a Page 876

As the birth was registered under Francho they would not have found it under Trancho you will have to order it as francho as this was obviously a mis transcription

Im sure the 1910 Trancho will be a sibling to Pura However the mother's maiden being registered alongside the birth did not start until September 1911 There were no further Trancho birth's in the period 1905 to 1920

Awww thanks again Angela :)  I was beginning to worry that my grandma didn't really exist!!!!  Interesting about Santiago, I never knew she had a brother, just around 5 half sisters, I will follow that lead.

I got Joseph's birth cert this morning.  there are two names on it that might be searchable on the 1901 census.  Joe's mother was Ellen Jane Thomas, and I imagine she would have been about 13 or so in 1901.  There is also a Louisa Thomas noted down as informant, present at birth, or 10 Bank Street.  I am guessing that this is either mother or sister.  Unfortunately, no father is recorded :(

Hello

No problem at all unfortunately mis transcription is a common problem and if they were Italian then maybe the accent was difficult to understand at that time... On the Birth certificate for joseph what does it say where the mother's details are if she was a Thomas and no father is listed it is likely he was born out of wedlock It shouldstate her name and maiden name and address where the birth was registered

Hi again :)

It does appear that Joe was born out of wedlock, his mum's name is Ellen Jane Thomas, of 10 Bank St Merthyr, I am guessing she was born around 1888.

It would be a good idea to send for the marriage cert perhaps there would be info on Joe's father?

Also you would know Pura's father's name and addresses are good for electrol look ups...

I have also found the people very good at Merthyr Tydfil Registry Office....

hope this helps

Just out of curiosity I searched for Pura's mother's maiden name, Montes...this was the only info

at present this only covers up until the early part of 1900, this was the only BMD on Ancestry in reg district Merthyr Tydfil.  At least you know with this death that they where here in 1910...

MONTES, Felisa
Death
Age 0 / June Qtr / 1910 /  Vol 11a /  Pg 401

Thanks Cas, do you think the wedding cert might contain father details then even if the birth cert didn't?

I wonder who Felise is then?!  I wasn't expecting any hits from Pura's maiden name, I guess I thought that they stayed in Spain

Thanks again :)
