I hope I am not making a pain of myself here! Could anyone look up the 1901 Census for me please, and see if there is any trace of a Trancho family? I would be eternally grateful :)
-
Have you any first names and dates of birth. It would help ;)
-
Unfortunately I don't have any first names :( I am guessing that the head of the house would have been around 20 ish. Thinking that I better get my grand ma's birth cert and find out her parent's names, probably didn't arrive in Wales until after the Census :( Oh well, it was a long shot, thanks for reading anyway :)

I've found tonight, that it may be Tranco (according to one birth cert)
-
Hi,
I have read all your posts....the name 'Tranco' as a first and second name is not recorded anywhere in Ancestry all counties Wales/England - sorry
Also I have searched for Ellen Thomas/Ellen Jane Thomas and also Lousia Thomas in Merthyr and Aberdare across census to try find a connection between names but nothing concrete has come up. Although there are plenty with the same namesake. Needle in a haystack really - sorry.
I also searched to see if there was a Joseph or Henry as a possible father figure to the girls but same as above.
You could try and email the library in Aberdare and request if you can get a possible electrol roll look up for 10 Bank Street 1907. The address I have is
Menna.James@rhondda-cynon-taff.gov.uk
Good luck

Thank you very much for your time and advice, I shall do that, I do feel like I am banging my head against a brick wall here! I can't even find evidence that there was a Bank St
The route I am taking now is trying to find evidence of William who was Joseph Thomas' brother, born within a year or two of Joseph (1905 - 1909) His mother was definately Ellen Jane Thomas, and his father could either have been unregistered, Moore, or Pasquale (sp?) He is the last lead to finding out my great grandad's name. He spent all of his life in a mental institution (Swansea?) for cutting his father's thumb off at the age of 18 :(

Yipppee, at least now, I have Pura's dad's name - Alexander Trancho, I would imagine that he came to Wales from Spain some time around 1907, so anyone any ideas what route to take now? (given that I believe he was born in Spain)

Hi
This is not really relavent to your search but just looked up Trealaw Cemetery Rhondda no tranco's buried there.
cheers cardiff

Thanks Cardiff :) I think my next step is to visit St Mary's church in Brecon Street and take a look at the graves there.
-
Hi Ann,
At least you are one step forward in Pura's case.... disappointing it did not have the father's name for Jo, but it was worth trying...
Sorry I could not have been more help..
Good luck

Thanks Cas, you were more help than you can begin to imagine :) Yeppers as far as Pura is concerned, I was disappointed that Pura's mum's name wasn't recorded on the marriage certificate, and don't think I have much chance of finding a marriage between Alexandro Trancho and Unknown Montes in Spain - how very annoying, I guess I was destined to not get very far here.

Hello
I have found her Birth but she has not been registered under Trancho
Here goes
Birth's December Q 1911
Francho Pura Mother's maiden Name Montes Merthyr T 11a Page 1620
Also found this
Birth's Sep Q 1910
Trancho Santiago Merthyr T 11a Page 876
As the birth was registered under Francho they would not have found it under Trancho you will have to order it as francho as this was obviously a mis transcription
Im sure the 1910 Trancho will be a sibling to Pura However the mother's maiden being registered alongside the birth did not start until September 1911 There were no further Trancho birth's in the period 1905 to 1920

Hi Anne,
There is always the option in the future to send for Pura's birth cert - this will give you her mother and also birth address
Cas
-
Cas, I did send for that, but for some reason it hasn't arrived, I emailed ONS about it the other day, now you've reminded me, I will hassle them some more (quick enough to take the money!)
-
It's a bit like a big jigsaw where you have to search for...and pay for individual pieces!
Sooner or later it will fall into place...even the more elusive bits are there...they just have not been found yet!! Although that can be the best/worst part lol...
Think you are well and truly bitten by the geneology bug now...and there is no known cure!
Oh well back to the search...
best wishes

It's arrived!!!!! One more piece in the puzzle :) Pura's mum's name was Julia Trancho, and father Alexandro (spelt Alyandro on one cert for some reason)
I have the address here as 1 Jones Court, Castle Street, Dowlais, but not sure what use that is to me - as I pretty much know for certain now that the family came to Wales around 1907 - so thats the Census out :(
The definate info I have so far then is as follows:
Joseph Henry Thomas b 1907 at 10 Bank St Merthyr, mother Ellen Jane Thomas, father unknown. Died 1970 Coventry. Had a brother William, and half sister Lillian (both untraced) Joseph's family did not live at that address in 1901 :(
Pura Trancho, b 1911 at 1 Jones Court, Castle St, Dowlais, mother Julia Trancho nee Montes, father Alexandro Trancho. Died 1989 Coventry. Pura's family did not live at that address in 1901 :( Her parents would have been born, and married in Spain.
Joseph lived at 7 Brewery St in 1934, and Pura at 3 Aaron Row, Dowlais (or thats what it looks like, can't find trace of it though) I don't think I can get any info about who else lived at both addresses can I?
So basically, I have my grandparents, and both maternal great grands, but only one paternal grand - oh and a huge headache!
Any ideas as to what my next step should be?
-
Well D ;) :D ;D :)one
