Title: Finlay of Sidbury
Post by: purple frog on Saturday 14 January 06 20:20 GMT (UK)
Wondered if anyone could help with my search for Robert James Finlay of sidbury, Devon. I have found him on the 1861 census aged 29 working as a butler in Paddington, London. Can't find him again till 1881 when he is in the Epsom Union Workhouse with his 4 children. I belive he married Rebecca Major in the early 1860's as I have found her with the children in 1871 census.Any info or suggestions VERY gratefully received  :)

Hi Purple Frog
Im sure this is your man in 1871, although the age is a bit out and he has been transcribed as " Ches" I do think it is him. On the OI if you tweak it about a bit im sure it could say Robert , so maybe another Rootschatter could just have a wee peek and tell me what they think

Thanks Joe you are a miracle worker I have searched for ages, how did you find it or would you be giving away trade secrets  ;D
Yes that is him again in 1891 I had found that but many thanks anyway. Just need to find him in 1851, any ideas?
