Hi all, first time for me, great site,
I am Martin Pinner, from Los Angeles, born in London. My G G G Grandfather is .....
John Pinner born 1825 Great Oakey and Eliza A (Maided of Mead) born 1829 in Southminster. Their son was William 1852. John Pinner was married in the Tendring District in Dec quarter 1848 to Eliza Ann Mead.
Im interested in John Pinner, from 41 to find out his parents information.
Then Eliza Mead, I think I found her Parents at IGI, William Mead (1805 Kelvedon, near Colchester). I have William's birth cert, indicates Eliza Ann Mead, from Great Oakley.
The confusing thing is the great oakley and Colchester. I know great oakley is right, not sure about colchester.
Let me know, Im excited about an impending discovery

Hi,
I couldn't see any family Pinner in Great Oakley parish or the parish of Tendring on the 1841 census.
ou would need to find someone with an index to search the whole of the Tendring Hundred as this covers too many pages to look at each on individually.
Hope this has been of some help

Is that him aged 45?? I think so....at last! That makes Hannah, Maria his daughters Mark his son and Martha P his wife? -3 means three months.
Witham (1851) covers - Braxted, Gt & Lit; Coggeshall; Fairstead; Faulkbourne; Feering; Hatfield Peverel; Inworth; Kelvedon; Marks Hall; Messing; Rivenhall; Terling; Ulting; Wickham Bishops; Witham
Success at last!

Geoff, of Devon,
Well thanks for all the hard work. I am new to this so it is difficult to decipher. I am probably going to order, from the local LDS the CD's of the counties involved, could you help me get them straight, so that I can make an informed order. Would be interested in 41 and 51, of the involved counties.
I did print out the stuff you sent, the William stuff sounds good.
Martin ::) :) :)

Marty,
I shouldn't bother ordering anything yet. Just post another lookup here with "Lookup Witham HO107/1783/81". Sorry my fault, I forgot to give you the reference for Witham as I was beginning to lose concentration.
At the same ref as William are:
MEAD HANNAH 10 KELVEDON ESS 81 KVD
MEAD MARIA -3 KELVEDONESS 81 KVD Age of -3 means 3 months
MEAD MARK W. 19 KELVEDON ESS 81 KVD
MEAD MARTHA P.36 KELVEDON ESS 81 KVD
MEAD WILLIAM 45 KELVEDON ESS 81 KVD
KVD stands for Kelvedon. ESS for Essex. Look at the headings of the first mail I wrote for Tendring to get the idea.
So that is PROBABLY your William Mead age 45, his wife Martha P age 36, daughters Hannah age 10, Maria age 3 months and son Mark W age 19. They were all born in Kelvedon (Witham area) and live there at the time of the 1851 census. Because there is such a big age gap I would assume there are other children in between. Boys also tend to go off to work or boarding school. Girls usually stay home! VERY sexist but that's what used to happen. There was also an extremely high infant mortality rate(~40% for poorer families).
All the other info is my working and they may possibly(?) be related to your people so worth keeping for the future.
The next thing I would do is look at LDS website for these new names ("relations") and also FreeBMD at http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl so you might be able to cross-reference in order to find the birth/marriage/death certificates and go back further.
Have a look at the Beginners section for tips!
Good hunting,
Geoff.
PS If you order anything, you want the 1851 Witham or full Essex census for the actual page with above ref (check the cost!) to just gain the address where they live and their occupations.

Geoff,
Im worried, I found two William's around the time, one married to Hannah and the other (yours) to Martha P. Unless, in 1805 William was born, in about 1820 married Hannah, who died then he remairried Martha Payn (e) in about 1850 ish. That would be right, but not sure. I am not sure what to think, just trying to piece it together.
On Eliza Ann Mead ('s) marraige cert is her father William Mead, a collar maker (or so i think it reads, hard to see), and they were married is October 1848, Great Oakley. On all of the census data (1891, 1901), Eliza said she was born in Southminster, Essex.
Not sure the Clevendon IGI match is right.

Hi again Martin,
If you need more info on Kelvedon (and censi) try this website:
