Hi,
Does anyone know of this place, listed on a Scottish birth certificate from 1863. Obviously I can see the Parish of Bathgate part, but does anyone recognize the placname above it? Looks like Durham__ something??..
Any help appreciated.
regards
Jamie

Is there such a place in the Parish of Bathgate?

Durhamtown is listed in the 1885 gazetteer of Scotland as "a village in Bathgate parish, Linlithgowshire, 1 mile SSW of Bathagte town.
There's a reference to Durhamtown, Bathgate here:

It can be found on the old OS map as well:

You have to navigate to Bathgate and then south west from there. It's on the railway line near Bathgate Chemical Works. The map is dated 1856.
