They were born around mid to late 1830's to mid 1840's.

Also looking for brothers of my Great Grandfather James Kavanagh Rathpierce, Ballyfad

Thomas Kavanagh flour Miller in Dublin
Charlie Kavanagh, Miller Alexander Warf, Dublin
Christopher Kavanagh also Miller Alexander Warf, Dublin

Again these were born late 1830’s to mid 1840’s

Guess it was exciting times when these two Kav clans met up on a night out on the town.

Any help here would be grateful

Kind Regards

Seasons Greetings to you, John G,

I posted the message below on the Wexford board earlier in the year.  Wexford Kavanagh's move to Dublin 1850s  (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,143264.msg703054.html#msg703054)

I have borrowed Jim Herlihy's book "The Dublin Metropolitan Police. A Complete Alphabetical List of Officers and Men, 1836-1925" from the library. I see you have both a James Kavanagh and John Kavanagh from Gorey,
Co. Wexford born around mid 1830s to 1840s. I hope you will accept slightly earlier dates
as there are only two James Kavanaghs shown as being born in Gorey.
James Kavanagh DMP 4436 born 1829 Gorey
James Kavanagh DMP 4509 born 1829 Gorey
The same problem arises with John..again there were two born in Gorey
John Kavanagh DMP 5540 born 1835 Gorey
John Kavanagh DMP 6536 born 1838 Gorey

What source did you use to find Charlie, Christopher and Thomas were flour millers?
Did they own a flour milling business or were they employed by a miller?

Chris

Hi christopher

long time no speak !  I was wondering if you could look in the book for a relative of mine that I am told of.  His name was Robert Blaney, I am told he was a policeman in Dublin, he was born in wexford but moved to Dublin with his sister around 1912.  Do not know how true it is as its something that was passed down that Robert and my Grandfather were at loggerheads because of the strikes, my grandfather was a tram driver and I am told that he got into a bit of trouble when the riots started because of the stikes, its all oral family history but would make a lot of sense as to why my Grandfather was not accepted by my Grandmothers family.

Hope I dont come across as cheeky in this request ....

Carol

Hi Chippy

I've made good progress on my great grand uncle James Kavanagh.

James married Ellen Cullen dau of Myles & Winifred Cullen of # 4 Harry Street on the 13 SAep 1874 at St. Andrews R.C. Church, Dublin. They had four children that I know of; Catherine b. 1876, Mary Ellen b. 1877, Margaret b. 1880 and Mary E. b.1882 d 1948.

Mary E. married Henry Napier and had four children.

Cheers
John G.

Hi Dathai

Thank you so much for the message ! I had no idea of the police connection apart from rumours that Robert 1892 had been a policeman but then was contradicted and family say he was a security man at the museum in Dublin. I recently found out that he had married in Wexford but left his wife and moved to Dublin where my Mom remembered him on trips to the natural museum and saw him working there. Looking at the records you sent it would explain his resignation at that time maybe to leave for Dublin for some reason unknown. I had no idea that his father was also a policeman. I am now busy looking for him in the records also, I note that he was born In Wicklow. I also didn't know the name of Robert 1892 wife. Again thank you so much for the information its much appreciated.  :)

Hi Carol
if you look at Robert's service pay records there is a gap from 1919 to 1923
The D M P were an unarmed force unlike the R I C who were armed and it appears that the D M P were armed around 1919 due to the revolution and this made them a target for the revolutionaries resulting in 12 D M P officers being killed 1919 to 1921 if you note some of the officers on the same page as Robert also resigned in 1919

the following two articles will sum up the situation at that time the second one explains more on the D M Ps stressful situation

Robert's father was more than likely an R I C  man

For jytefas re reply 7

have you looked at the children's birth certs, you are missing out on vital information
James Kavanagh's marriage as you know does not give his occupation but address of Castle yard
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1874/11245/8123991.pdf
His childrens birth certs however show that he was a policeman till 1877 when he must have retired as he was a dairyman and then on Margarets birth cert August 1880 he is listed as deceased
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1880/02853/2045508.pdf

he died in May 1880 as a dairyman
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1880/06479/4864011.pdf

there is a death in 1882 for an Ellen Kavanagh Widow of 133 Townsend St at the Whitworth Hosp whether this is his wife or not would be uncertain but both are buried Glasnevin
age 60 on her death cert and age 55 on Glasnevin index
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1882/06393/4836001.pdf

Mary E who married Henry Napier is obviously Mary Ellen born 1877
