Once again i need some help. In 1871 i have a family of David's living in Llangynwyd. On this census there is a Llewellyn David as the father for the Head of the family Ward. These are the details:
Nicholls arms, Llangynwyd ref: rg10/5415 Bridgend folio 23 page 16
Ward David head married 50 farmer of 15 acres & innkeeper b. coychurch
Elizabeth wife married 50 b. Glam, Bettws
Llewellyn son unm 22 blacksmith b. Llangynwyd
Ann dau unm 18 dairymaid b. Llangynwyd
Elizabeth dau unm 16 scholar b. Llangynwyd
Mary dau unm 12 scholar b. Llangynwyd
David son 9 scholar b. Llangynwyd
Jenkin son 6 scholar b. Llangynwyd
Margaret dau 4. b. Llangynwyd
Llewellyn father widr 75 retired farmer b. Llangynwyd
It is the father Llewellyn i am trying to locate with his wife as i have tried locating him on my 1851 disc and i cant seem to find him. As Ward was born in Coychurch i have looked at the possibility that they were living there but no luck again. I know that Llewellyn's middle name was also Ward if that is of any help.
I would really appreciate some help as i dont know where to look from here. All help Greatfully received!!!

Hi Badgirl,
I found on 1861;
Llewelyn David age 66 born Llangynwydd retired farmer
Elizabeth David age 68 Wife born St. Brides Manor
living at Coed Leyshon.
Then, 1851;
Llewelyn David age 57 butcher and farmer born Buckinghamshire, but when i read census it looks like Brecknockshire.
Elizabeth age 59
Mary age 26 housekeeper
John age 22 looks like cartsman, cant make it out clearly
Esther age 20 scholar
living at Tir Fawdry
Have to go out now, but will look later for you, Jane.
Ps....1861 parish of Llangynwydd
1851 parish of Llansamlet

Thanks. I tried everything on the 1851 disc but as its not complete i could not find him. I keep getting stuck on these later generations and as i am stuck in Scotland its hard for me to find anything thats not on the net!! I really appreciate you helping. My Aunt is old and ill and i have been trying to get things done to do a tree for her before the worst happens. She keeps asking how i am getting on and i keep saying "almost there!". At least now i can get a copy of the Davids to her. Thank you so much again!!!
;D ;D ;D

Completely off subject but relevant...
I have one line that started as 'Leyshon David' on marriage and 1841. then 1851 he was 'David' children were 'Davies', 1861 and 1871 all were Davies. Internment record he was David again. His daughter (my line) remained Davies until married. It is defo the right family not doubt
The old Welsh patronymic form would be in use. This is when the person is known as son of/daughter of - Leyshon ap David to Leyshon David to Leyshon Davies. The IGI also has a number of David and Davies in the same families.
Moral of the story your David's may also go as Davies. Just thought if unable to find you could try looking at the alternative

Thanks for the info. I will keep that in mind when searching for the marriages and things i need for other Davids. That could actually explain why i cant find some of them in 1881!! Maybe they saw the futre and thought they would chuckle as we tried to find them!! Cheers!!

This looks like a possible marriage
Llewellyn David from Newcastle Bridgend married Elizabeth David from St Brides Minor on 5 may 1817 in St Brides Minor Parish
Cas

Looking back over this info I do not think that Llewellyn is Ward's dad, I think it could be wife Elizabeth father, this fits with 1841 info - there is only one Ward on the 1841 right age area and a smith his father is Jenkin David, also the name of one son on the 1871 also the marriage details below confirm the possibility, but getting the cert would prove it
Marriages Mar 1847
David Elizabeth Bridgend 26 391
David Ward Bridgend 26 391
Do you want to post details for Ward and father?

Aaaaaagh!!! Here we go again!! I just keep running into problems with my family!! If its not people with the same name born in the same place at the same its time its people getting married to people with the same surname!! Any details on Wards father would be great! I just assumed that it was his father due to the surname. DOH! I did not even consider the possibility of it being his wifes father. Coed Leyshon is an address i recognise from later census' so if Llewellyn was there first they must of moved in with him later.
Thanks for your help with this. I just keep getting stuck in ruts but it looks like Monday morning i have a few certificates to apply for!
Thanks again. ;D

Ok have done a bit of checking on igi...there is a poss that he is not son... but grandson.
There is a Ward born Coychurch father Aaron, but this does not fit any of your family names There seem to be 2 but only one comes up on the 1841. Best to quote the marriage ref at Brigend and see who the father's are.
I do think Llewellyn is Elizabeths, they are at COED LEYSION in 1881, so all this info is applicable to one line. best not go further until you know who his father is. these are the 1841 details. Jenkin and Mary are at the same address as a couple in 1851.

All David all born in county

If you give me a mo, will see if i can find them both on 1851 to seperate.

Another jigsaw to fit together then!! When i started doing this family tree i never thought it would be so difficult! I expected a few problems but nowhere near as many as i have had. Thank you so much for helping me out. Hopefully things will be a little more straightforward from here!
Thanks again. ;D

1851 This is defo your Ward with family so the 1841 is yours just have to see who's his dad on marriage cert. Trouble finding the other, you can't always trust info on IGI

Found same family on 1861 all David - no sigh yet of other. They are at same address as 1871, there is another Daughter, catherine born 1yr before Llewellyn - Nicholls arms, Llangynwyd do you have these details?
***of course she is the grandaughter with Llewellyn senior on the 1851***
cas

The ony other Ward David with father Aaron mother Keziah from IGI I can find was born 1868. Perhaps the other died?
Cas
-
I could not find either on my 1851 disc! It came up with loads of Edwards but not a single Ward! I have the details of them with their children but thanks anyway as i didnt have an address prior to them living at Coed Leyshon. Strange names the parents have though, maybe the marriage certificate will confirm the father unless i get the wrong one, which would be just my luck. I have the reference that you gave me though so i should be safe this time!!! Fingers crossed. I would say that the parents may of died or moved away perhaps and Ward stayed with the Grandparents. I gues that the certificate will put me on the right road anyhow.
thanks again, i know i keep saying it but i really do appreciate it!!!
;D
-
If you quote just give Ward David and Elizabeth do not give her surname as there is a liz thomas with same ref, I think you will find he married a David. There are not many 'Wards' so you should get the right cert. The reg offices are great to help as long as you will buy the cert they will help with info over the phone. Jenkin maybe his father.
Jenkin is prob first name given from a maiden name way back. I have a Jenkin in my tree, but not a David.
Glad to help, if you need more give a shout, if I can help I will. You do need the certs to clarify unfortunately.
Cas : )

well as long as they get the details right for all the certificates i need i should be ok. They were pretty good when i applied for my own from there but that was in person, i have yet to find out if they muddle things over the phone!
Thanks again!!!!!!!!!
;D

Hi again badgirl, think I may have sussed it, been bugging me since aft...you will still need the cert to prove this.
Checked the IGI again, this is submitted info not subtracted from source so it maybe open to error. I found grandfather Jenkin birth and marriage to Mary Evans.
They had a son Aaron who had a son Ward, he was the one on the IGI, not 2 same guy. The one born in 1868 to Aaron is Ward's nephew (he had a brother Aaron) I have found this family on the 1841. When you get the cert let me know and I will post details, unless you do not wish to wait. See below

Wow. Thanks for all that. I am getting in touch with the registry office this morning so as soon as i know i will let you know but it seems like you have pretty much sussed it. That would of taken me a lifetime to fathom!!!!
Thanks!!!!! ;D

Well done Cas!!
I got back later than expected, so have only seen this now.
What a super sleuth!!
-
Well the certificate should be here within a day or two so i shall sit and wait ever so impatiently for it to arrive and begin to unravel my next little mystery. Thanks for all your your help Cas and ems and i shall let you know what it says when it arrives!!!
::)

Hi Ems,
How you doing, good I hope :)
Guess the knowledge on David/Davies etc, having a similar family in my tree, also have traced some family in the same area. Do not normally let other trees get to me, but felt bugged at the puzzle had to try and sort for me!! He has got an uncommon name so Badgirl was lucky the info was there.
Still would get the cert though, you never know... :-X
Badgirl... I for one would like to know what the cert says, fingers crossed ;)
Cas
-
Hi Badgirl,
Will keep checking to see what you find....cant wait!!
Cas,
I know what you mean!! I love to hunt for them and wont let a name or county change stop me!(unless it's in my direct line..LOL)
I'll be a lot happier when Carmarthen re-open,fancy having a refurb when we really need them!!
Apart from that..I'm great, planning my next visit, waiting for certs..hmm.
Hope you're all well and enjoying your searches!!!!!!
-
lol back to work after Easter, have been off for a spell...will be a twilight researcher from then on.... :(
But have done well on the old tree, my hunches payed off spent out on loads certs, just need lots of pre 1837/parish stuff now :-\
Cas

Where is the best place to get parish records from? I need them for the Llangynwyd area but i cant seem to find anywhere that does them.
???
-
Check the IGI first there seem to be a lot of your people there.
Also Bridgend library they will give you an answer, you can email.
http://www.bridgend.gov.uk/Web1/groups/public/documents/services/001884.hcsp
Possible to find people who will do look ups or 1 name studies.
http://www.genealogylinks.net/uk/wales/glamorgan/index.html
Also try googling your placenames see what comes up, let me know what you come up with I have people all over Bridgend area, and need parish info soon. I would also see what Genuki have to offer, they say where most records are kept.
Also Glam records office
Cas
-
I tried Genuki but i got lost amongst the pages so i will try the library first before i delve into unknown waters. Thanks for the links. I have a huge family but luckily most of them were easy to find and there a lot of people still alive in Bridgend that i have not got round to contacting yet. The worst thing is i have old paperwork stored at my house in Wick but i cant get there to get it for a while as my Husband is on Detatchment till June. That would give me loads of answers and clues but i guess i will have to wait.
Thanks !!!! ;D
-
Spot on with the marriage certificate!!!!! Thanks !!!

Hi Badgirl,
That's brilliant......3 cheers for Cas!!!
