I am looking for the birth and parent details of Mary MITCHELL
born: 1790 Great Brickhill
married: 1828 to James SINFIELD
Thank you
-
Mary Mitchell B1790
Parents Edward Mitchell and Mary (?)
Sister Sarah Harris, born 1784, so this was probably her mothers 2nd marriage

This is a very old post. Hopefully O.P will get an email notifying them of your reply

Many thanks, D.Jackson
Was Mary Mitchell baptised at Great Brickhill? I wonder if Edward Mitchell and Mary were also married there?
-
Dear J Dickens
Edward and Mary were as far back as I went here as they were a peripheral branch to my ancestors. As there is an indication of this being 2nd relationship for Mary, it could well be they were 'married' but not churched!
Hope you have good hunting.

Dear Trish1120
The census enumerator probably could not understand the local accent in 1851. James and Mary were probably illiterate. Sarah Harris gives here birth place as Long Crendon, Oxon. The parish adjacent to this is Haddendon. This I suspect is a likely candidate for Mary's birthplace.

Do you have Marys death?
As in 1861 Sarah Harris has a Mary Sinfield with her born Warwickshire :P
Same occps for them as 1851
I presume Mary was the 2nd Wife of James?
Also what evidence do you have that Sarah was Marys sister?
There would have to be a Harris/Mitchell Marriage found.
Trish :)

Dear Trish
It is a long time past since I reviewed this side of my family.
I can from my records give you James Sinfield's 1st wife
She was
Susanna Morris
Born 31/01/1772 in Leighton
Died 29/01/1811 in Lidlington
I seem to remember at during my research that James's 2nd partnership might have been convenient but not churched.
You cannot assume that information given to census takers is accurate.
The census taker was paid by task, not truth, and they were treated with suspicion as they were one step from being the tax man

Dear Trish
2nd Note
Mary Mitchell's marriage to Jame Sinfield might have been her 2nd marriage.
There is an undated reference to a parish register entry of a Edward Mitchel marrying a Mary Harris.
James born 1770, Mary born 1790(?) 20 years difference?
This reference could be either her parents marriage or her first marriage. Just a one line notation

That is a possibility I had though of also that Mary was a Widow :)

Many years ago I found a book.
Great Brickhill in the mid 1800s by Michael Warth in the library. It was back stick being sold off so I purchased it for 50p. There's one for sale in eBay at £10 now but it's a good book for anyone with connections to the village. Lovely old photos and a little more about some of the families.

Do you mean Haddenham :-\

The 1861 census has Sarah Harris and Mary Sinfield in adjoining dwellings indicated by //
Marys place of birth is probably Warmington

In 1857 A Sarah Harris is listed among the members of the Baptist church no Sinfield family mentioned.
