I have found a marriage of Lydia Griffiths To Thomas Mountjoy in the june quarter of 1892 at Bridgend. The only problem i have now is finding Thomas on a census prior to/after the marriage. I have lydia's family on various census' living in Bettws so i should imagine Thomas would be around that area somewhere, but where?? I have tried various spellings of Thomas' surname but so far come up with nothing. Any help to locate him with his family or with Lydia later would be appreciated!!!

Hi Badgirl,
1901 parish;Higher Newcastle @ 2, Earl Street;
Thomas Mountjoy age 31 born Coleford, Glous. occ; signalman on railway
Lydia age 28 born Ponteyeyman wife
Annie age 3 born Aberkeyfig
Arthur age 7 born Pontyeyman
Cenwen age 5 born Brymann
William age 9 born Pontyeyman
think I have Thomas' father also, just double check, Jane.
-
Now I'm not 100% sure if this is his father, but going by family names I'd say it's a possibility;
In parish of West Dean, Monmouthshire;
Thomas Mountjoy age 56 born Glous occ; miner
Annie age 56 born Glous wife
Harry age 19 born Glous occ; miner
Arthur age 17 born Glous occ; miner.
If these are right I have the family back to 1841, but only way to find out is from marriage cert for Tom and Lydia.

Hello,
I dont think this is the right family as my Lydia should be down as born in Bettws. As far as i know they stayed in south wales after they were married as one of their children later had a son called Howard who used to visit us from not far away. Thanks for trying but it seems you are having the same probs as me!!!
???

Where is this census too? On closer inspection it looks like they are born Aberkenfig, brynmenyn and pontycymmer but i cant be sure as i dont know where higher newcastle is!!!!! The details for Thomas' father may well be correct if the first ones are. Will google higher newcastle and see where it is.
???
DUH!!! Higher Newcastle is in Bridgend!!!! Sorry!! That must be them !!!! It was all the spellings that threw me out for a minute but then the brain kicked in, just!
Thankyou!!!
;D
-
That's okay!!
Think that pontyeyman is Pont Einon, you have to read it out loud in a Welsh accent...lol!
-
Oh no! Where is that? Tried to google it and came up with somewhere nowhere near Bridgend!
??? ??? ???
-
Nope not Pont Einon, just found them where you found them on 1901 online and their spelling is Pontycymmer. Phew!! You got me worried for a moment and i thought my relatives were born elsewhere! Thanks again!
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
So do you think they are the right ones?
Theres loads of them on previous census'.
Silly me, didn't read census, just took transcription....my turn to "duh"!!
-
Well if its the only Lydia then yes and i could not find her until you did!!! She didnt get married till 1892 so it can only be her! Its the right area too. I am not sure about Thomas' father as i never knew where they came from to begin with so its possible but will order marriage cert to be sure. thanks again!!!
