Hi,
I am looking for the following individual on the 1851 census. Hugh SINGLETON, baptised 1841, Winsham. According to his marriage certificate he was resident in Winsham at the time of his marriage in 1860, but am having trouble tracking him.
Thanks in advance,
Anna

Thanks, both Geoff and Joe, not only for the info, but also for the quick response! ;D ;D
One thing I am unsure about though is the "Alfred" in the 1841 census - he's not in the household for the 1851, and there doesn't seem to be a death recorded for him in the parish registers for Winsham. Any ideas?

Hi Anna,
The 1841 cencus does not state what relationship to the head of household is to other people living in the house,so maybe Alfred could have been a nephew.
The 1851 cencus has Alfred Singleton 15 b Winsham who is a lodger in the house of James and Hannah Brown in Winsham.

Appreciate this is a very old thread but as Ive been researching Hugh and his family for some years
I'm posting this to help others should they have similar queries and come across it.
Hugh would be my G.G.Grandfather.
Answering the questions raised here:
Alfred was son of John - went to Jersey and stayed there until his death.
Hugh moved to Dorchester then to Bournemouth - In 1861 he is in Thorncombe not Winsham.
The address in Thorncombe would be Winnards Hill Cottage, which in recent times would be Winyards Hill, the cottages were demolished in the 1960s apparently.
For John and Elizabeth I have now identified 12 children in total, plus an additional child where John remarried after Elizabeths death.
