Hi
Could anyone please lookup JANE PASHBY fro me in these censuses please? I should be able to find her on the Mormons on-line 1881 census, but she doesn't show!
Here's what I know anyway ...
Born in Levisham in 1823 to William and Elizabeth 'Betsey' Pashby (nee Leadlay)
1841 census: living in Levisham (HO107/1260 Folio: 30 Page: 5)
1851 census: living at no.1 Aislaby with brother William (HO107/2373 Folio: 69?)
1861 census: living at The Hall, Levisham with brother Leadlay (RG9/3645 Folio: 17 Page: 3)
1871 census: visiting brother Leadlay in Levisham (RG10/4844 Folio: 17 Page: 5)
1881 census: Where is she living, and with whom?[/i]
1891 census: Where is she living, and with whom?[/i]
1901 census: Where is she living, and with whom?[/i]
Possibly died as a spinster (www.freebmd.rootsweb.com)
Thanks for your anticipated help here.

Roger - what are the death details that you have found - that link doesn't work. If this death is in Scarborough there is a married Jane Pashby in Scarborough on 1881,1891 and 1901 about the same age.
Tricia ???

OK then, Tricia.
Ignore the 'death' bit as I was only p***ing in the dark with that one, because BMD don't specify whether it's a married name or not with the death cases, do they?
Here's the death I was thinking of though ...
Jane Pashby Mar quarter 1903 Scarborough aged 81 Vol 9d page 233
The age is correct, but as I said, it's not clear whether she is a spinster or is married.
As she was BORN Jane Pashby, it is unlikely that the 'married' one that you mention in 1881, 1891, 1901 would be her, yes?
It seems that a lot of my ancestors spent a lot of time boarding or lodging with siblings, so it's sensible to presume that she might be lodging with another family member - but I haven't found out yet.
I have no indication that she has married after 1871, as she will be at least 48 by then, but I suppose that she could have done!

It also seems to be that they all have the same flippin' names and similar birth years as well ::) ::) ::)

Yes, I'd agree! Lots of Janes, Henrys, Sarahs, Williams and Marys ... but there's only one Erasmus!!!!!!
Where'd he come from? ??? :o

Yes - that's it!!! :D :D :D
The OTHER Jane Pashby that you have researched for me lived in 1901 with her uncle ... William Watson! I couldn't work out HOW he was her uncle, but this is the missing link - ug!!!
AND ... Jane's aunt Mary Ann Pashby married John Fewster!!
It's all falling into place now - I'm off to fit the details onto there, but I'll be back with some more tempting problems for you to pore over very soon! ;D
Thanks!
Roger ;)

Can't see either of them in 1901

Great - and yes, William is there in 1901 a widower - mistranscribed , of course.
The final piece of the jigsaw ;D ;D ;D
Seems sad in some ways - they married too late to have their own children so always seemed to have nephews and nieces around. Sound like nice people

But there IS a happy ending!
As I said before, William ends up with ANOTHER Pashby girl living with him in 1901 as I'm told that the OTHER Jane is his housekeeper in 1901 , here -
1901 census: Still a spinster and living as a housekeeper to her uncle William Watson in Chester Villa on Malton Rd, Thornton-le-Dale.
They all seem to have lived with one another at one time or another - it's no wonder I've got buck-teeth, wear denim overalls and can play a banjo brilliantly!!! ;D
Thanks for all your help - I'm going to mark this thread as completed now!

I picked up you query as I was looking for John Fewster who is an ancestor of mine. While transcribing some workhouse records I came across an Esther Pashby and I wondered if you would be interested. I may be throwing something into the ring that is totally unrelated to you but it may be of interest.
Esther Pashby (classed as a bastard) was admitted to Scarborough Workhouse on the 1st March 1841. Her year of birth is given as 1828. She left the workhouse on the 8th June 1841 to go into service. She was re-admitted on the 1st June 1843 as an emergency because she had a lame foot. I have not yet found when she was discharged but if you are interested I will let you know if I come across her name again.

Hi!
Thanks for the contact. That's very interesting!
I have no Esther Pashby in my tree, and can't see where she would fit, but I'll hang on to the info anyway, just in case.
Good luck with your Fewster work.

MT ;)
