Title: Can anyone help me find Joseph Rigby
Post by: em79 on Friday 19 May 06 16:37 BST (UK)
:P Is there a very kind person out there who can look up a Joseph Rigby and his wife Phoebe/Phebe.  I have a little limited information from the 1881 census which states that they are living at 56 Elliott street, possibly in the tyldesley/bolton area.  Their children are Mary Augusta (my gggrandma), Lena, Gertrude, Percy and Ernest. I also require any information about the wife in this family her maiden name was Phoebe Hobson reason being that i have a letter written to her by a female cousin M Hobson and i want to know the connection.
many thanks if you can help.

Thanks kelly that was quick. I had looked on the BMD and not found much didn't know where else to look. Should be a good starting point.

Glad to be of help.  :)

I had a quick look on the 1871 census but couldn't find them.  Details from the marriage cert. (eg occupation) should help to identify them though.

Best wishes
Kelly

Phebe appears on the 1861 census, aged 19, mistranscribed as "Phave" HOBSON.

She was a servant (a housemaid) in a household in the Chorley district of Wilmslow (Registration district Macclesfied, Alderley RG9/2587 Folio 93 page 25).

Phebe is listed as being born in Marthall, Cheshire and is unmarried.

Hi em
According to IGI a Phoebe Hobson was christened on 1 August 1841 at Chelford.  Father Joseph Mother Mary.

She might be your Phoebe.  I'll see if I can find them on the 1841.  Hopefully she was born in time for the census !

Kind regards
Su

thankyou so much will have to go through my information but i think that the women in this family were mainly employed as housekeepers/servants.  so sounds right.  Is there any information on later censuses about other children that Joseph and phoebe may have had. perhaps 1891 or 1901. thankyou again em

I know this post is an old one but Phoebe Hobson (1841) is my 2nd great grand aunt, her brother Job Hobson (1838 - 1875) is my 2nd great grandfather. Very interested to find out if the M Hobson was Mary

I have a photo of Phoebe.

Regards

Stuart
